re: If you listen carefully to Sark here, he explains one of the reasons Pelini failed at LSU.

The fact that Mr. Ed did NOT interview Pelini says everything one need know about his view of process. What a boneheaded thing to do.

Until he lost his first game.
What has Sark been without Saban?

Dude we had derek stingley at one outside CB spot and eli ricks at the other. That's the best CB tandem in the country. On top of that, our DL led the SEC in sacks.
And we had one of the worst pass defenses in history.
Let's add that up again: an elite pass-rushing DL and elite CBs. And a historically bad pass defense. This was NOT because of a lack of talent or experience. This was 100% because of poor coaching.

I'm not trying to be an arse when I say this, we all saw that. It was extremely obvious Pelini has no idea WTF to do.

The most damning thing about Pelini’s failure this season was that even after his defense struggled, beginning with the first game, he either failed or refused to make simple adjustments that would have better utilized the talent he had on hand.
This is a trait of a losing coach.
Talent often masks deficiencies. But a coach has to know how to best utilize the talent.
This bad hire is on Ed. Linehan was also a wasted hire, as Dallas Cowboys fans tried to warn us.
If Orgeron makes another bad hire at the DC spot, his remaining days at LSU will be numbered. That’s just the way they do things here.

No, thanks.
Dude is a time bomb waiting to happen.
Best of luck in that shite-show fishbowl at UT with all those a-hole donors clamoring for a championship and no Saban to take the heat off you.

in the coaching world it seems like the bigger frickup you are, the longer the line is for people waiting to hire you after you get canned

Bad coaching(I can concede that)
+
Preseason poli issues
+
16 starters gone from 2019
+
10 defenders in 2020 not playing
+
Gilbert/Chase/Marshall out (3&outs)
Let’s not act like it was ALL coaching.

I think he will have Texas in the CFP by year 3. The only thing that held him back before was his drinking and youth or immaturity.
Sarks an innovator type offensive coach as you could see in the video.
He just needs to recruit and have a decent DC. His offense will always score points.

The Big12 is weak and a one team conference right now. He can do minimal improvement and destroy the conference.
Pelini failed completely to implement his system and failed even more so to win the players and the room. As soon as we struggled, he couldn’t get them to believe in him. That’s what Orgeron mentioned right away with this hire that the new coaches have to be able to connect to the players. It doesn’t matter what you know as a coach if you can’t teach it and coach to your advantages, you suck. Pelini sucked.

quote:I thought that too at first, but working under Saban has developed him and should bring a Renaissance to his coaching career. The dude is in Texas, coached powerful offenses at Bama, and was a coach in Cali, he'll be able to pick up the talent he needs offensively. Defensively they just grabbed Pete Kwiatkowski from Washington as their DC (the guy I kept yelling at LSU to go after). He's produced tons of talent to the NFL at Washington including 4 first rounders and 6 second rounders.

The safeties were a big big problem. How many missed tackles didn't prevent big plays? No one seems to want to really admit it. Yes, there has been some talk, but the safety play this year was the worst I have watched in my almost 60 years of watching LSU football. You just can't put it all on scheme.

IMO Pelini was fired because the defense did not improve. They looked just as lost against Ole Miss as they did against MSU and Missouri. Besides the aTm game, and a few stands against Florida, they never looked solid. They were out of position, constantly blowing gaps or coverages, and just looked bad.

Where is the Dline coach hanging these days? How bout bush? He went back up north? His buddy aranda didn't bring him to baylor since the season ended.

The game has changed, we're not going to see defensive dominance like we did in, say, 2011.
Hold the opponent to around 20, gonna win most games. Hold them under 20, probably win a national title. Doesn't matter how many All Americans you have, they're not allowed to touch a guy in a pattern, or hit someone hard over the middle.
LSU played solid D against A&M and Florida... held A&M to 13 points because Mond sucked. Gave up over 30 to Fla because Trask didn't. Lost to A&M because Finley (at this point in his development) sucked at reading defenses; Johnson could read better and scored the lone TD on them. Then Johnson kept it going against Florida and we won a tight game.
That's against 2 teams that finished in the Top 10, which is where LSU is supposed to be also.
If we can stay consistent on offense, we should score 30+ a game, no matter the opponent.

quote:me too. It's funny how the vast majority of the vocal LSU fanbase has to be hit in the face before they realize things. First it was the fact that they didn't want dual threats, then they didn't want a spread offense, then they didn't want uptempo, then they didn't want anything to do with an up and comer, then they didn't want anything to do with 3 down lineman, then, then, then...
I sure got my arse jumped on here for questioning that when we hired him.
When we got Pelini it reminded me of the lame arse Canada hire. Those are lame and lazy hires. Hell, even the Peetz and Mangas hires are only because of their relation to Brady. Even the Nielson play was because he knew and worked with him.
Now I'm not saying Nielson and Peetz/Mangas wouldn't/won't work out, it's just seeing how limited O is at decision making which is so frustrating.
