You’d be yelling to the rooftops for them getting everything they can out of college football and the pros. The NCAA fricked this so bad on purpose. That is not the class of ‘22’s fault. The clutching of pearls about signing an nfl contract when nil is pay for play and eliminated any shred of amateurism blows all my senses. And before anyone wants to say it’s just my opinion nick saban told congress on Capitol Hill nil is pay for play

Probably someone wouldn’t let 5/5 out of committee unless 2022 guys were cut out. Probably didn’t want a player or player to come back and play against their school. Just a guess. That’s how these votes go.

Nah it’s not that. The ncaa wanted extreme disruption to salvage whatever neutered power they can. George Constanza y’all wanna get nuts let’s get nuts. But any family would go bonkers to get everything they can from all this. Remember when we talked about guard rails? Well that was in El Paso and we’re in Mississippi. And I fully think that lsu will make the playoff without the players in question. Wouldn’t miss the playoff without them. And won’t make the playoff because of them. It’s about law and what rights these young men have because of the malfeasance of governing bodies. And I use the term governing loosely

I would want them to go back and play since the rules allowed it. Especially if they would have announced these rules prior to the draft and returning to college would have been the plan.
This is also a way to get more notoriety in general. More people care about LSU football and will know your name compared to being a free agent and spending a year or two on some practice squad

5 for 5 was passed June 23, 2026.
The NFL draft started April 23, 2026.
The NCAA can get fricked and so can the SEC. The entire 2022 class should have been grandfathered in for eligibility this school year and this all goes away. Instead, lawyers making bank.

Spot on. The NCAA killed amateurism the second NIL became legal. If these kids can get a bag and still go pro, good for them. The 'class of 22' didn't make the rules. They're just playing the hand they're dealt. Nick Saban telling Congress NIL is pay-for-play just confirms what everyone already knew. The pearl-clutching is ridiculous.

The NCAA didn't kill amateurism. House v. NCAA killed amateurism. It was a court case that the NCAA lost.
Blame Grant House and Sedona Prince who jointly, as Plaintiffs, won the antitrust suit against the NCAA. That ended the amateur athletics model.

I work (let’s say) very near college athletics and have for nearly 20 years.
The NIL thing for most programs has added so much complexity to the landscape of college football to the point that the majority of administrators will tell you that it drives them nuts - mostly because the rules, regulations, and processes have constantly shifted.
That said. Even the most die hard (behind closed doors) opponents of NIL in athletics admins will still tell you that if it was their kid, they would tell them to get what they can while they can. They will then almost universally follow up with “and invest the money; not spend it.”

Spot on. House case precedes NIL and it’s likely that the NCAA allowing NIL (a year after the House case was filed) was an attempt to mitigate what might come in that case.
The kicker is that the house settlement declared “back pay” and now every institution is taking it on the chin.

He’ll yes I would. They can make good money playing the game they love and the window of opportunity is extremely limited. Have to make as much as you can while you can. Pretty simple really. I’m assuming the courts will see it the same way.

Because they’ve gotten to the point where they are ostensibly powerless. So, my juvenile comment was in the context that their only move is to let the whole thing go so far into insanity that Congress steps in and reforms the whole thing into a model somewhere in the universe of what the ncaa thinks it should be

This shows exactly why everyone in the class of 2022 should have been excluded from the 5 for 5… they ran out of eligibility before the rule was passed.
