There are too many factors that we don't know and people would have to assume would be different.

Would Miles adjust his offensive philosophy?
Would Miles continue to involve himself and override play calls?
Would Miles develop the killer attitude and put inferior teams away and not play down to their level?
Would his recruiting still be top notch at Ole Miss?
Can Miles recruit/develop a QB or get someone on staff who can?
Does O develop the talent we have and recruit top notch players?
Does O learn from his past mistakes and become a good to great HC?
Does O provide LSU the best chance to contend for National Championships again?
Etc.

At this point all you can say is Miles is a more established coach. Better remains to be seen and that's IF he's given the opportunity to be a head coach again.

My concern is can coach O sustain success and build on it for Years

There's a major difference between taking over programs during the middle of the season and actually leading a program over years.

He will be in charge on how the team game plans and prepares. People don't realize how good we had it with les recruiting. Can O continue to bring in the type of classes Miles used too. Coach O is a great recruiter but much of his recruiting was as an assistant not the HC. Still need to see if his type of players pan out.

I'm happy Les is gone but we can't really compare coach O and Les as a HC. Les has a proven track record of recruiting extremely well and having solid teams always. I think Les was way too stubborn on game day and that's what hurt this program.

At least now it looks like we will let our offensive coordinator do his job. If Les would have done that, he probably is at lsu today

Not everyone was giddy about jimbo. It is probably before your time, but there were a LOT of Lsu fans that wanted jimbo gone when he was here. As for your boy at Texas now, he is certainly FAR from a sure thing.

There are only a very few that are sure hires, and I don't see Saban or Meyer lining up for this job.

Quit bitching and enjoy the games. We should have a good defense and finally an exciting offense. You can't even enjoy the process from constant shitting on O.

I'm just curious why so many worry about this. Nothing is a guarantee. Coaches come and go often, especially successful coordinators. Enjoy the now.

Agreed. Fk seeing what O can do at Lsu. Let's bury him now. I will go out on a limb and say O will have a better and more exciting brand of football than Les had from 2013 on...you guys are so stupid with this bs.

So how bad are you hoping O fails?

You have it all set up. If LSU does well, then all the success goes to coordinators...if they do poorly, it is all on O. Lol. Nice

Les Miles has been begging for every head coaching job since he was fired and nobody wanted him. Freaking Houston laughed at him and then hired a coach who has never been a head coach before in his life.

feel free to bookmark this. any job miles takes in the future i don't expect him to last past 4 years. the man is 64 and runs an archaic offense. i don't expect him to get a serious chance to coach big time football again
Overall valid, in that Miles is 64 and I don't expect him to coach again.

He didn't run an archaic offense, he allowed his coordinators to run what fit the talent. When that talent included QBs with potential NFL ability (Russell, Flynn, Mettenberger) then the offense was potent and balanced. When there weren't QBs that good, and the RBs were (which they have been since the beginning of his tenure here, through the current back which he recruited), he ran a more run-heavy offense. And won.

Miles won't coach again because Miles has retired, and LSU gave him an early retirement by canning him and letting the buyout take effect. If he were 55 and otherwise followed the exact same career, he'd already have a job, and would be on speed-dial at the ADs of Ole Miss, Auburn, Missouri, Tennessee, and A&M, at the very least.
Resume matters.

First of all Jimbo was not before my time by any means. Secondly I'm not bitching , I'm pointing out the obvious about the situation. My main bitch with the O hire was the simple fact that a large number wanted him as coach because he's Cajun, that's the only reason and it's ridiculous. I'm from south La and have Cajun relatives and I just think it's absurd that's what some of our fans think is a legitimate qualification.

I don't think that's how it will be presented on the rant. I think that if Orgeron and his staff does well, they'll get all the credit, which they'll deserve. If this season goes south, a lot of the blame will be directed at Miles.

Just like last year when a bunch of posters went crazy after LSU destroyed teams like Missouri, Southern Miss. and Mississippi. People went on and on about how explosive the offense looked after just a few weeks under Orgeron. When Alabama and Florida beat us, and the offense (at least against Bama) looked bad, everybody was going on and on how Orgeron couldn't change the offense midseason.

Some of you are already making excuses, claiming that we don't have much talent and that 8-4 or 9-3 season is fine. Never mind the fact that anything less than a 10 win season use to be considered a massive failure by a large group of posters. Hell, a bunch of people on here claimed for years that anybody could win ten games a year at LSU.

I've always said thats the only reason he got hired because he was one of us.

Any other 22-29 career coach LSU would not have given the time of day.

Miles vs Orgeron Head to Head:

2005
LSU 40, Ole Miss 7

2006
LSU 23, Ole Miss 20

2007
LSU 41, Ole Miss 24

I'd prefer to not see another of our National Championship coaches in the fricking SEC West. And any of you who would are stupid.

Consider the teams that both coaches had at this time.
