If Nuss develops some poise and the ability to read defenses without trying to force so many passes he probably becomes a starter whether at LSU or elsewhere. So I’d advise him to get in the film room, practice in the offseason and improve.

If he leaves after the bowl game he could compete for a starting spot somewhere else. If he waits until after spring practice to transfer , he could forget about starting somewhere else next year. He could stay and compete but I can’t see Kelly benching Daniels. Should he wait until his junior year to compete with Howard and Ricky Collins.

Do you really think Kelly and Daniels sat down and agreed for him to come back to be the 2nd string QB. Really?????????????????????????????????????????????????

1) Nuss will either be the clear #2 behind Daniels or Howard will be the clear #2 after spring ball. 2) It is possible that if neither separates, then maybe both come back for 2023 and battle it out in spring 2024 for QB1 in fall 2024.

On the other hand, JD5 coming back 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% guarantees LSU will have 3 QB's on scholarship in Fall 2023 (JD5, Nuss or Howard, and Collins). Had Daniels Left, whoever won the starting job between Nuss and Howard, the 2nd team guy would likely have left after spring ball 2023 because if Howard won the job, he is RS FR and Nuss as RS Soph has already been passed over. Nuss wins the job, he is a RS Soph and Howard is sitting behind him for at least 2, maybe 3 years.

So why didn't he want to COMPETE when the opportunity was there for the Bowl game? He needs to talk to Travis Daniels, who gave up his redshirt year for ONE play.
Why would he give up an entire year of eligibility for one game. A worthless bowl game at that.

Nuss needs to get in the portal early. The earlier the better ain’t no way there will be a fair competition. BK hitched his wagon to JD and he won’t do anything different.

Well if his sole desire is to start in 2023 at a P5 program, he needs to look at a Big12 or maybe mid-tier ACC program that has no QB returning (Clemson, FSU and UNC are all set). Everyone in the SEC looks set at QB with either a returning starter, or in TENN's case, a guy with starting experience (Milton) or a QB from the portal with starting experience at a P5 school (UK got the NCState QB) and Florida got one from Wisconsin (who left after the coaching change there). Aggie, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss. State, SCAR, Mizzou and Auburn all have starting QB's back. UGA and Bama are breaking in new QB's but they have tons of QB's on scholarship (Bama signed 2 top 100 QB's this year and has 2 4-stars on their roster already). UGA has a 5-star from 2021 (Vandagriff), a 4-star from 2022 class Stockton) and a 4-star from the 2020 class (Beck).

So he is not going in and winning a starting job at an SEC school. He could be the starter for LSU in 2024 but there is Howard there as well.

Because he came to LSU on scholarship to play football. At that moment, after Johnson announced he was transferring, he was the only QB on scholarship left, with an entire bowl practice session to be groomed for the starting spot. Jontre Kirklin threw 3 TDs on K-State, you can't tell me Nussmeier (who played practically all game against Arkansas) wouldn't have done better.

Give up a year's eligibility? He'd still have had the '22, '23, and '24 seasons, and he'd have come into this year as the established starter.

If he starts the next 2 seasons (anywhere), do you really think he's coming back to college in 2025?

Look at the qbs they are recruiting. Mostly dual threat type is what I see. Which I personally do not like.

Did you not like what you saw against Bama? Without that Dual Threat, LSU loses that game.

To be clear that was the '01 SEC CG, not some B-grade bowl game.

To be clear, their TEAM needed them and only ONE stepped up. LSU was out of DB's in that game, LSU was out of QB's in the other. Bottom line is one was willing to step up and the other wasn't.

Wow, I didn’t know Daddy Nussmeyer called Ed to complain about playing time, then to back out of the bowl game when the team didn’t have a QB. No wonder the team rallied so quickly behind Jayden.

“ He sent JD out on one leg….that tells you all you need to know about any competition!”

Urban did same thing with JT Barrett…and Joe B rotted on the bench until he transferred. Another running QB who couldn’t pass.

If the priority is a good education, then I'd tell my son to transfer out of LSU right now. LSU is a prime destination for athletics. But, not for higher education.

Yeah, when you go back and look at that, it's a lot more toxic than people here are realizing.

It might be part of the reason Johnson transferred out, too. As I recall, Brad Johnson wasn't overbearing and calling coaches to get Max on the field, he let things play out when Finley got the start.

If he is marginally better than Daniels in the spring and fall practices, I'm not sure you start him over Daniels. In my mind, you have to blow away the starter if he just took you to the SEC West title

I really don't like hearing this. But ... I have to agree with it.

And if JD gets hurt next year, or just regresses and they go to QB-2, that might not be Nuss -- they might skip him to start Howard.

Slim chance Nuss plays, I'd tell him to transfer.

“Son, I know you bleed LSU Purple and Gold but recognize your current coach and OC did not recruit you to the university nor is your style of play their preferred style. You are a strong-armed mobile pocket passer; they want a dual-threat running QB. Just look at CBKs recent history of starting QBs at ND; they were not you. Your choice is simple: stay and compete to remain the backup QB for the university you love or go out and find a coach, offensive scheme that emphasizes your playing strengths in order to maximize your chances of earning the starting QB position. Size of school doesn’t matter if you want to play at the next level; in today’s game, high-quality playing ability will get noticed by NFL scouts. Figure out which is most important to you: staying at the school you love or maximizing your chance at playing time. I think it has to be one or the other for you”
