re: If Nabors was draft eligible, do you think he’d currently be graded higher than Boutte?

I know he was a 1st round draft pick. His stock has to have tumbled. Missed a portion of last year and then had a very sub par year this year. Those signs don't point in the direction of a first round pick.

If you look at the body of work between the 2, probably not, but I think both will do well in the NFL.

I didn’t say was. He is a 1st round pick.

He will be top 5, maybe top 3 wr in the draft.

Smith-Njigba might be the #1 wr taken & he has 5 catches this season

I personally think after the combine, Boutte will be drafted higher than Hyatt(Tenn) & Johnston (TCU)
From the Mel Kiper thread:
quote:

Wide receivers
1. Jordan Addison, USC
2. Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee
3. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State
4. Quentin Johnston, TCU
5. Kayshon Boutte, LSU

Meanwhile Nabors did well this year. He produced Boutte and Jenkins Stats combined.

It's Nabers but a lot of folks get that wrong. And it's not quite equal to Boutte plus Jenkins. Jenkins has more TDs than Boutte and Nabers combined though.

We cant clearly grade receivers this year...the offense ran through JD runs. And it looks to me Boutte didnt get as much skeems for whatever reason for passing downs

Why will boutte thrive in the nfl over Nabors? Just curious of your thought process.

Because he remembers footage of Boutte two years ago. And that’s what sticks in folks’ minds.

Apparently I am not even needed to answer the question directed to me, but I’ll give it a shot. Yes, I can remember a Boutte before the injury and he was amazing. You, on the other hand, are blinded by recency bias. Another year of recovery and he’s going to be even better.

As for the reasons, Nabors is going to play wide in the NFL. To be a star at wideout you need elite speed and world class hands. Jefferson, Chase, Moss, etc. Nabors is really good, but he is not on that level. He is more like Terrance Marshall than Chase or Jefferson. Nabors is a first read receiver in this offense and Jayden is a first read QB. He was often one read and run. Even with far more opportunities (79 targets) he has only produced one TD.

Boutte is going to play slot in the league. It takes far less talent to be elite in the slot. Cupp is not on Chase’s or Jefferson’s level. He would not be great at wideout. He is one of the best WRs in the league when in the slot, though. Also, Boutte has been handcuffed because he is not a first read receiver in the slot with Daniels. Again, Daniels has often been a first read and run quarterback, eliminating Boutte from much of the game-plan, unnaturally. In the NFL every QB is capable and does make multiple reads on every play, often pre-snap.. He’s going to get more opportunities at an easier position and has at least equal talent, likely more than Nabors from a route running and position perspective. With far fewer targets (62), he has produced the same number of touchdowns as Nabors this year. He’s going to get more opportunities in the NFL from the slot and going to be more productive from a talent perspective in the NFL than he was able to be this year for reasons outside of his control. He also has better intangibles, is bigger and faster.

Yes he would. Boutte is bigger than nabors and runs a faster 40.
Boutte 4.37
Nabors 4.44

If Boutte would have transferred to Alabama like he wanted to, he would be the first WR off the board.

So tell us which Alabama receivers are going to be drafted higher than Boutte.

Exactly my point.. he would have starred in that offense with little competition at his position. Also, his QB would have been significantly better than the one he has currently.

That’s a tough one, because we don’t have the numbers on these guys, nor have we studied the film. I suspect that Boutte would be graded higher, though I’m extremely bullish on Nabers.

It’s likely that Boutte is the focus of every defense we face, because of his uncommon ability to separate. That would open one-on-one opportunities for Nabers.

I think Boutte is going top 10, and I think an NFL team is going to steal him that late. Nabers is easily a first rounder, though. He has shown much better competitiveness on 50/50 balls than Boutte has.

What Boutte brings to the table is unfortunately the thing that is Daniels weakness. Boutte can win balls downfield. Daniels rarely takes that option so Boutte’s biggest strength is negated quite a bit. Boutte has a higher NFL ceiling than neighbors, but that still does not mean it will play out that way.

What Boutte did pre-injury was elite and Nabers will never come close to that. Will Boutte regain form in the NFL? I sure hope so. But right now Nabers is the more sure-handed route runner of the two.
