jp...what happened with your second email to your buddy about Crowton/Miles?
He hasn't talked to him since last week (my guy was on vacation the tail end of last week).
When I spoke to him today, he said from all the conversations he's had with Crowton about LSU football in general, that this is the best relationship Crowton has ever had with a head coach. He said he's never "specifically" asked if Miles meddles in the offense per se, but his gut feeling from GC is that Miles lets Crowton do his job and for the most part doesn't interfere.
I told him the next time they speak that - if it's appropriate - to specifically ask about it and see what he says. I'll certainly post something when I hear, because I'm growing tired of the "Miles meddling with the offense" myth.

As much as people bitch about Miles 'calling the offense' and 'forcing that big 10 shite'...we are pretty damn diverse, especially moving to the spread option and all.

JPLSU1981, ya da man. you really have some great posts.

Our offense is pretty gimmicky, so the context of your point makes no sense.
Option football, no FB, 5-wide, no huddle, Wildcat formation, Pistol formation... these are all gimmicky.
Regardless, this whole conversation is pointless. Gary Crowton is the OC and calls the plays. If one can't see that, then they didn't watch Miles until he got to LSU and didn't watch Crowton until he got to LSU
All of this bullshite has been fueled by lard asses like Buddy Songy. He's been telling every one that will listen that Miles is taking the play book away from Crowton. If you know ANYTHING about football you'd know we are about as diverse as it gets. Right now we're a "jack of all trades but a master of none" to quote Gordy Rush from the post-game show. We have to get really good at ONE THING before we start lining up in a different set every fricking play.

If you really want to know, ask Crowton himself. Because I did.
Les Miles doesn't call the offensive plays. It's a myth that is perpetuated by people like yourself.
If you don't have time, or connections, to have a one-on-one with Crowton, just watch the game film. If Les Miles was the OC, we wouldn't be in 5-wide, nor would we be running no huddle, nor would we be playing a freshman, nor would we be running a version of the spread, nor would we be rotating running backs every series, nor would we be putting RBs at fullback.
You don't know football, or anything about Les Miles' background for that matter, if you think this a "Les Miles" offense.
BOOM!!!

I have seen Crowton offenses, it would be more gadgety, gimmicky to offset the offensive line play.
Are you f'ing kidding me??? Our offense is busting at the seams with gadget plays that don't work. That is the problem with our offense and has been since last year. Too much gimmicks and not enough lining up and beating your man. We've lost the basics.

I' pretty sure I've lost in the neighborhood of 30-40 IQ points in the process of reading this thread.

I hope you didn't read it all. I read what the post was about and commented. Which is against my own policy if responding to people who are just trying to flame and bring attention to themselves.

Thanks for the Abba music video link.

I think it's more that Crowton can't call the play he wants too because of the young QB. Same as last year. Notice how great the play calls were under Russell and Flynn, but last year and this year it is very limited.

I actually think the playcalling is majority on Crowton, it's got too cute written all over it

Word from the "wife line" (my wife and Mrs. Crowton are friends) is that Les and Gary have been fighting quite a bit over control of the play calling.

How many times does "bullshite" have to be called on this? I mean really. If you think our head coach with NO HISTORY of calling plays is taking over for a coach WHO HAS DONE NOTHING BUT CALL PLAYS HIS ENTIRE CAREER then you're dumber than dumb.

Actually, I am calling the plays and I just pick things at random.
Really, can't we see that we are in a "young quarterback" phase and will struggle until we get someone with experience?
I also agree with the idea that we have to get to doing something well before we go off on trying to do a bunch of fundamentally different things, but maybe that has been an attempt to find an identity?
