We have a portion of lsu fans that will outright shite on the last 11 years just because of miles.
I don't think most can grasp the difficulty in being one of the most successful programs while competing yearly against the toughest division in FBS, toughest cross-conf East foe, and arguably toughest OOC slate during his tenure.
Damn the downvotes and I say thanks Miles and Geaux Tigers. Time to move on.

It's funny that Les is labeled a great Recruiter but until LSU, never had a top 10 recruiting Class
Before miles got to Oklahoma State they were getting classes in the 80'80's and 90's. He had mutliple top 25 classes at Oklahoma state.
You lose all credibility when you say Miles isnt a great recruiter.

I will check cause I don't know if Miles ever had a top 20 Recruiting Class before LSU. Maybe 1
Multiple top 25 classes at a program with 1 winning season from 1987-2001.

This was a quote (or close to it) on ESPN two seasons ago, when everyone thought he was going to be fired if he lost the last game. Why hasn't he been snatched up at any half arse decent school, like ESPN said he would?
Because his agent screwed up and stipulated that he can only be hired by temp agencies.........

Again, to suggest Miles is not a great recruiter says more about the poster than it does about Miles.
He had his faults, usually exposed on game day, but recruiting was not one of them.

An argument can be made about his recruiting a certain skill set vs the system he ran. His recruiting of quarterbacks and oline is less than desirable. He is a great recruiter but what good is it when you fail at recruiting the most important position?

Excluding Texas, what major problems were looking for head coaches?

Everyone knew who really did the recruiting at LSU

Because he gets 135k every month for 3 years to do nothing.
I'm surprised it's less that $5 meelion. Of course, he was pretty much doing nothing while he coached.

This is obvious here. He's not a good coach. Average at best. Universities have every incentive to hire him right now since they can get him cheap and we have to pay the difference. Did anyone want him? Did anyone offer him a job? Nope.
Much like anything in Louisiana everything is ran on the good ole boys network. Miles screwed the university for years because you had the good ole boys who didn't want him gone. How do you think Orgeron a complete failure at HC got the keys to one of the richest football programs in the country? Because he's in the good ole boy network and he's cajun. Perfect for Louisiana. He'd be great in politics here. Alleva is an idiot and we all know it but he's not the only one who wanted him in that seat.
You just have to understand Louisiana culture and live it to know it. Miles was well liked by many and that allowed them to just overlook his gameday flaws because he's a great friend.

I'm not sure that would have mattered anyway.

Do you see any pro miles" posters starting threads about Miles
Why would they. Their man was dumped and obviously there is no positive news about Les other than the typical "Les is such a good ol' guy" or the false narrative that he is "crazy, lovable, a card, a gambler". All of that folksy narrative about his quirkiness was really made up by the media.
Yes, he had a successful tenure but he also underachieved and looked downright incompetent at times.
Although we will never know, you're foolish if you don't think Saban would have exceeded Miles achievements had he stayed at LSU.

Cant disagree with this right here.

I think 2 years ago he might have been in more demand. Plus it's not like he was going to be hired by the true blue bloods. tOSU wasn't firing Meyer, bama wasn't firing Saban and Michigan already was turned down by him and was lining up Harbaugh.
So imo, if I was him. I would not take a fricking job at Purdue or any shite program like that when I'm making bank already off my last deal.
But if no one wanted him, then we have bigger problems. Joe Alleva continued to give him more money and time. And if he was in no danger of going anywhere, then this Athletic Department is ran by a bunch of fricking morons.

He was never going to stay though. So imo, when you have a loyal coach and stability, that's better than every year you lose 3+ games you tell your AD the NFL is calling.
So no he would never had exceeded what Les did.

You're stating this as if it was an unequivocal fact...which is BS.
There is absolutely no way to know this at this point because he didn't stay.
He became a better coach at Bama after leaving the NFL.

I know man Okie State had no talent in the 80s only a couple of NFL hall of famers. That had to suck for them. And btw there weren't all these recruiting rankings like there are now back then so saying they weren't getting a bunch of top 25 classes is just ignorant.

And, no matter what, the recruit was still going to face four yrs. in Stillwater, Ok. If he was inclined to go to OSU...
Posted on 4/11/17 at 4:56 pm to nitwit
I think Barry Sanders only stayed 3 but overall yes. Another thing that's been avoided is the fact that OSU was on probation before Miles arrived but the coach who was there before the sanctions had much more success than Miles. Coach Gundy, Miles's predecessor has also had far more success than Miles. So this fantasy that Miles took a program that had never done anything is a lie. They were just coming off of probation.

I used to travel to Oklahoma every summer, usually Oklahoma City. Nobody misses Les Miles over there.
