In a hypothetical world.

Flynn beats out JaMarcus for the job his So. year. Then Flynn leads LSU to a couple really good seasons. Maybe even a NC in 06. Flynn enters the draft and is a mid to late 1st rounder (yea I know in reality he went 7th round after his Sr. year. But just imagining if Flynn has some more rhythm and momentum heading into a 2nd year as a starter propels him as a early draft pick. yada yada)

Flynn goes to a team that doesnt have the QB developing like the Packers, but still goes to a solid franchise. Flynn is mature so no JR like issues of money getting to him. And he's got enough talent to be successful.

JR takes over for just this 1 year. He also leads the Tigers to NC in 07. However JR's work habits have been pointed out and because he's only started 1 year...He goes 4th round (yes I know Flynn went 7th)

So JR actually has to work and fight to keep his spot in the NFL. Nothing is given to him and he has to earn it.

Flynn is the kind of guy that would have been successful regardless. But JR backing up a good QB for a years, sitting and learning from the sidelines....

Would he have been a much better pro? OR was JR destined to fail cause he was always lazy and nothing would change that. Or as long as he doesnt get drafted by the Raiders he has a shot?

The Raiders were the worse possible team for JR to go to, doesn't mean it would have been for Flynn.

JR signed the big money contract and it was down hill after that.

I see what you're saying, but JR was never going anywhere but the 1st round...QB's are in such demand that with his measurables and production he would have been in the same situation regardless what year he started.

Interesting hypo.

But I agree with Punk. JRs measurables alone would have pushed him into the 1st round.

I love both guys, but JR probably would have made so much money early on that his decline would have been the same.

Think Miami had first pick in 08, so JR could have faced a lot more temptation and blown through his money even faster.

Once the purple drank hits your system, it is all downhill, no matter if #1 pick in the draft and go the undrafted free agency route

The big reason I don't buy into this scenario is that JR would not have been the type to stick around for only a chance to start his senior year. He would have transferred from LSU.

it was every college players dream to be taken that high.

JR started off wrong.
He HELD OUT. He missed training camp. He blew an entire season.
He was misled by some greedy agent about the entire process.

I doubt that if you could take him back in a time machine he would hold out if he had it to do over again.

I dont know about lazy. I do know that I preferred Flynn when they were both on the team. Flynn would move the chains.

And you would be stupid. JJ in 09 had a higher qb rating than Flynn in 07. Flynn was very avg in 07.

Do you believe JR would have sat the bench for three years? I don't. I believe he an his family/uncle had JR's career path planned from the beginning. If he hadn't started at LSU, IMO, he would have transferred.

I love how people assume LSU would have won it all in 06 with Flynn instead of JR. LSU did not lose to Auburn and Florida because of Russell.

Russell was a better QB at LSU than Flynn.

JR had all the gifts below the neck and none above. I hated watching JR get so much adulation when the real talent was on the bench. JR had QB sneak fumblitis bad, if they were in a short yardage situation I would stsrt screaming 'JR fumble coming up', I was usually right.

Flynn is a leader and a real talent, JR is a physical freak who was doomed to fail. He did.

Dumb hypotheticals are dumb. There's a reason why Flynn didn't beat out Jamarcus for the job.

I say the raiders was tbe worst team possi le fir jmarc, not only have they reched on a lot of 1st round picks, they also had to pay him that money for taking him 1st. And the team was already in shambles.

I dont see flynn starting befote jmarc in any scenario, flynn had a lot of maturing to do. Jmarcus played from day 1 under saban.

Its like I stated..

Flynn would have gained more momentum if he had another here at LSU. He would have improved and played better. People compare Flynn vs. JR's last year a lot. I always say compare Flynn as a 1st year starter and JR as a 1st year starter (So. year).

JR really needed to sit a few years in the pros though.
