It seems pretty shitty to McMahon to drag him along that long if we know we are going to fire him unless he's already knows it's going to happen so that he can go out and start looking for another job

Yeah, but I was thinking it was something he knows is coming as well.

They may even negotiate a deal with him where he steps away with a negotiated settlement, giving him an opportunity to look like he is leaving on his own accord.

I know a lot of ranters despise the guy, but he is still well-liked within the athletic department and by a large number of the monied basketball supporters. They may be looking for a graceful exit for all parties involved.

I agree with this. I got nothing against him and hope he has success wherever he goes next and should be treated fairly on the way out. There is no need to embarrass him or cause a scene in the process

I could see that and then can see how our older fans like mr nice no energy and the losing. His morgue is a great place for them to sit and nap. No more young people standing and being loud.

It really would be best for him to pull a Trent Johnson and just go find something else. Of course he has sank so bad that a tcu isn’t going to get him.

Verge did perfect on the Kiffin play so he should get the benefit of the doubt but our athletic department has been a historic clown show so I can see how people have ptsd despite the last action being a master display.

The only thing I don’t really like is the support articles that have spun up. If they didn’t have those id have zero doubt MM was gone.

I'm still being told by my guy that Verge wants him out but boosters are unwilling to pay the buyout because of how much was spent on football in the past year.

That being said, IF Will Wade is the guy then it makes sense to wait with no portal open yet.

Honestly if we can get Wade it’s almost an idea to fire him even without booster support kinda putting them in a situation.

Also I can’t see our basketball only ones not on board with Wade back. Mallett isn’t going to sit by idly. I’d also guess Rousse is sitting with our big boosters.

3 possibilities here:

1. McMahon is staying - in this case I would expect a statement in support of him or a press conference in the next few days - they know the sentiment of the fan base & that keeping him would be unpopular, so they will proactively feed us some propaganda on how and why next year will be different

2. McMahon is fired, open search for a coach - I would expect a move to be made in the next few days so that the search can begin in earnest

3. McMahon is fired, Wade already lined up to be new coach - I could see things dragging out until NC St is eliminated from all competition to (at least partially) avoid media scrutiny during the ACC & NCAA tournaments - if I were Wade’s people, that would have been a point of my negotiations

Yea I think all of those are reasonable.

If we choose 1 I feel bad for the interns that are going to be getting angry calls with people canceling tickets.

With 3 there is the wade buyout but perhaps nc state views it in their best interest to wave that are lower it so they can get a two- three week jump on getting a new coach so they don’t end up like ole miss

ETA if we choose 1 it will be an interesting watch to see when we run the free entry with any ticket gimmick. It might be from the jump.

Never seen a bigger situation of group think. You giant pussies. Get a life outside of 19 year old kids shooting a basketball. Listen to Max talk about the impact his coach had on his life. It's as if bragging to your hillbilly friends about winning and losing is more important than a grown man helping young men become the best version of themselves.

Congrats on the giant truck. Sorry about your tiny penis.

Conference Winning Percentage at LSU

Johnny Jones: 47%

Trent Johnson: 39%

Smoke Laval: 59%

Gerry Dinardo: 47%

Nikki Fargas: 51%

Curley Hallman: 32%

Matt McMahon: 24%

Jones took LSU to the NCAA Tournament and never had a losing season until his final, lame duck year. Trent Johnson won an SEC championship. Smoke Laval went to the CWS 2x. Dinardo brought LSU out of a 6 year rut. Fargas went to 6 NCAA Tournaments. Hallman was canned after 4 years. ALL were fired after despite having more success at LSU than McMahon, and after a lesser period of losing (if MM isn't fired after this season)

NONE have performed as poorly as McMahon. He is, objectively, the worst coach, in any sport at LSU, over the last 50 years (maybe longer). Retaining him would be equal parts illogical and unprecedented.

Unfortunately for your post, he's not paid (nearly) $3M per year to be a guidance counselor. He's paid to win basketball games. If he wants to stay on as a guidance counselor at a $75k salary, that's find. But on the basketball court NO school in the SEC has won fewer SEC basketball games than LSU in the last 4 years (excluding Texas and Oklahoma). But to add a little more context, Texas has 15 SEC wins as a member of the conference. Oklahoma has 13. LSU has 17. And that is with Texas and OU not playing two full seasons, 36 games, in the SEC!

Like it or not, LSU basketball is a BUSINESS. If you can build a time machine and go back to the 1940's when it wasn't, feel free. But until then, accept reality. And the reality is the CEO of this particular product line has failed miserably. LSU has a dwindling customer base and zero market presence. When that happens in any business a change is made at the top.

Rousse is ALL Wade, been his plan to get him back here. Still have to find the money. The money is the only hold up in all this, if somehow Verge/Mallet/Rousse/Landry can find the money, Will Wade is the coach next year.

Nobody, including Wade, is taking this job without the NIL commitment to fund the basketball program. Period.

I know Landry has his worts but if he is involved I have confidence it gets done. Like him or not he has a full political machine behind him and he knows how to raise money. I trust him, Rousse, Mallet to raise it

We get Wade back and my donations go from being only football and baseball to putting basketball back in

Good post.

I suspect McMahon, and his staff, will want to know his future sooner rather than later so they can beginning planning accordingly. Either they are returning and need to continue working to put together next year's roster. Or they need to start networking for their next jobs. We see them as just coaches on TV, but they are people with families. They will want to know how to move forward for their families' sake. That's why I don't really see a delay in waiting to accommodate Wade's NC State team if that is the move.

That doesn't mean LSU would announce Wade immediately. Even if he is the hire I would not expect it until after 4/1.

Wade would absolutely work and get the commitment.

MM isn’t good at raising money. He just isn’t a good fit where it’s not a basketball first crowd. A guy like Wade or big Bruce Pearl can fund raise at non basketball schools because they connect well and work.

The HC generates the funding. Period. That's why when Wade took the job initially he spent the entire summer travelling the state building a donor network. Further, MANY mid-major coaches would take a job where their salary would jump from $600k to $3M+

McMahon deserves another two years. This is the first year we’re not under scholarship restrictions and he lost two starters before the year even started.

TCU was interested in Trent and offered him what he was making at LSU. It was not some altruistic move on Trent Johnson's part.
