Box and 1 is good if you are playing a high school team with one good shooter and 4 guys that couldn't hit the broad side of barn. Simmons isn't even a good shooter, so a box and one is not really that good of an option.

The better game plan against him is to allow whoever is guarding the other forward/post player to sag or double Simmons.

Keep in mind, unlike Jones, Calipari demands that his players (including 5 star freshman) play defense and he sits them down when they don't.

The whole idea of a box + 1 is to keep the ball out of the hands of their best player by tightly guarding him.

But Kentucky will probably be better off playing us straight up. They have the length to prevent Simmons from getting the easy alley oops he has been getting over smaller defenders. Stay on Hornsby and attack Blakeney on offense.

The real blueprint is to make Simmons a passer and force the other guys to jack up threes like what happened early in the season.

The best way to guard LSU is to man up across the board and take away the other 4 players. Simmons is gonna get his no matter what, so focus on stopping the other 4 players.

Just like what teams would do to LBJ when he was with the Cavs the 1st time. He's gonna get his, it's inevitable. So focus on stopping the other players and make him beat you by himself.

I would honestly focus on stopping Hornsby rather than Simmons. You won't be able to stop Simmons anyways, he will get his. But Hornsby is the X- factor and the Robin to Simmons Batman. Take away Hornsby, make Simmosn carry the entire offensive load, and tire him out. That's your best bet IMO.

This this and this. You try and contain Simmons not stop him but you try and stop the other four on the court. The key to countering that for LSU is that more than one other person get hot from outside or Craig Victor goes man child down low.

UK is going to get creative and at times and they could bring Murray to the top of the key and play Simmons to attempt to eliminate the drives to the basket where he is the most effective. Simmons will have to know where his open guys are and his mismatches as they present themselves and the shooters will have to make them pay or draw fouls. Otherwise, when Simmons is not bringing the ball up or playing out top, they could remain in whatever zone or match up that they currently run on defense as they have the length to defend our other post players. It will be key for our guards to play smart and not turn the ball over. Interested in seeing what offensive approach we take against UK and what the film suggests that Coach Jones should do.

Take it from me, someone who has played/coached basketball, a box and 1 won't work for this game because we have other players who can score and hurt UK. A Box and 1 defense is only for teams with one superstar player and subpar role players. That isn't LSU at all...

If anyone knows Cal, you know there is almost a ZERO chance he's playing a zone. I expect us to try our best to deny Simmons the ball in the post and try and make him shoot jumpers all night. Then there is also the possibility he says let Simmons get him and shut everyone else down.

I'm betting high chance that Cal plays a 2-3 zone to contain Simmons/Blakeney/Quarterman penetration and force us to beat them from the outside. TBH that would be the most logical set up for UK especially with their length.

That's why you're writing stupid comments on a fan site. You don't box and one an exceptional passer.

Why would you chase Ben? He's not a good shooter. You're a moron, you chase the guy that hits the jumper idiot

Just sag off Simmons and don't guard him tight outside 12 feet. He can't/won't shoot jumpers and that would prevent his penetration.

Really surprised opposing coaches choose to guard him tight on the perimeter. He's ZERO threat out there, so sag way off.

If I'm Calipari I wouldn't worry about blowing LSU out in the PMAC. I would worry about getting out of there alive.

Two years ago LSU beat Kentucky in the PMAC.

Last year LSU lost to one of the most talented Kentucky teams ever by only two points. Hornsby shot a three pointer for the win at the buzzer.

The PMAC will be full tonight and the crowd jumping after picking off Vandy.

If you sag back he'll easily blow bye you. You don't sag off great drivers. You use help side d but Simmons is smart enough to make plays even if that happens
