This is interesting. I wanted Herman 1st and then Jimbo 2nd and when both of those became unavailable I thought at that 2nd tier Coach O made the most sense (I think it was Mullen, Fedora from UNC, etc.) I do believe the pitch from O to Alleva was- "hire me for less money and I'll keep Aranda and bring in Kiffin, stay out of their ways and recruit like crazy" and that was the best available choice and frankly has worked out about as well as it could have. Air Canada, and the reaction to him, could have totally wrecked this program but Coach O really responded correctly to that...

But we have no way of knowing if Herman could have worked out here or hell, maybe Mullen is about to make Florida relevant again; who's to say he couldn't have done that here?

But it's a nice academic exercise to have after winning the Natty!

We tend to focus on Saban and Meyer acolytes as the most desireable, but there is something to be said about working in a multitude of coaching philosophies like Orgeron....whether it was Johnson/Erickson at Miami whrte he won a natty..or Pete Carroll where USC won 2 AP Championships.

Pete Carroll is one hell of a coach....only he and Jimmy Johnson have both a national Championship and a SuperBowl Championship as head coaches

never was a jumbo fan, he left fsu in bad shape and Herman was a hot name at the right time, but didn’t think he was worth that much

i was ok with the O hire considering what his salary was..i honestly would have been ok with 3-4 losses provided the offense looked much better

dude earned every bit of it and came through when many doubted him

This is his current records at Texas:
2017 - 7-6
2018 - 9-4
2019 - 8-5

Losses to Iowa State, Maryland, Texas Tech, near loss to Kansas at home last year... As head coach at UT (University of Texas)... in the Big12...

He has FAR SUPERIOR talent to everyone else in the Big12 except for Oklahoma.

8-5 in your 3rd year at Texas is bad. Texas should be a two-loss minimum team each year. No excuses to lose more than that.

not me. Did not want.

Jimbo- yeah, wanted him. Putting 2nd half of tenure at FSU with TAMU, I'm very happy that deal went south. I'm going to say at best we would have stopped the slow decline (no elevation), and that's at best.

CEO- was hopeful, "let's see what happens" guy. My hopefullness was based in his tenure at USC after OM. My thought was could see a glimmer of what he learned from the OM disaster.

LSU had more draft picks in the first 3 rounds in 2020 than Herman has had in 3 years

He’s had a measly 3 players drafted on offense the last 3 seasons

His book is not yet written but he is taking on water

O, in a tougher conference, with no offensive background, has figured it out much faster.

I was happy with O. Thought he would continue the good recruiting and you need talent to win. I new he could attract good coaches because of the traits that make him a good recruiter. I did not want Herman or Fisher.

Same here. Wanted Jimbo in 2015. I was okay with O cause I knew he could recruit. Yes Les could as well but I was holding out hope that O would fix the offense and he finally has.

Holy crap, NO. Jimbo is going to be a financial albatross for TAM and he will not, in my opinion, deliver quality results. I have never thought Jimbo was a good head coach.

I was less upset about O and more upset that again, LSU could not get its person because of administration incompetence. I supported O but was skeptical. I remember saying we fired a national championship coach to get a guy that won 3 games in the SEC. So I was not a detractor but not a supporter. But once he was hired, he was a tiger and I support the tigers.
