Receiver had a corner & safety on him, pushes Donte Jackson to the ground & makes a one handed catch. But that TD is on Aranda?

And the DBU cornerback makes a pitiful attempt at the tackle, as usual.

It was the wrong call in that game situation, period. There's not a single stat in the world that would make a knowledgeable football person feel differently.

Well I don’t understand why he did, go for the sure win (TD) and stand up and tell the fan base we went all out for victory.

He damn near missed the FG to put them ahead. Looking back, I wish he woulda missed it.

you only go for a td as a HC if you've built up equity. if O doesnt kick that fg and gets stopped and ND wins on a fg,HE IS GETTING MURDERED ON HERE.

I THINK EVERYONE KNOWS MY FEELINGS TOWARDS O. THE FG WAS THE RIGHT CALL.

It's almost comical at this point the complete 180 degree change in opinions of the fan base in regards to things like this. One of the repeating complaints about Miles since 2008 was that he'd lost his balls...no more Crazy Les willing to take chances and trust him team to make the play.

And here we are, several days after failing to even ATTEMPT to score a TD at the 1/2" line in a bowl game that was basically meaningless to everyone in the CFP era in favor of a FG that ultimately left us vulnerable to what happened, trying to convince ourselves the safer road was better.

It's like Bizzaro World in this place at times.

That's the problem with our fan base. Y'all say that's the only option is to run. That is what the defense is expecting. You run play action with multiple options. We are talking out both sides of our mouth by wanting a wide open offense but want to run the ball. Think outside of the box.

At the time I was glad we kicked the FG. It felt like the right call but in the words of the great Cam Newton, “hindsight’s 50/50”.

not to mention the fg was a gamble b/c if was a bad angle...then ND would have the ball at 20 instead of 1 if we miss

People gonna rag on you about this only because we now know the outcome of the game. Let's say we have another false start, busted play, whatever. ND drives to the LSU 35, kicks a FG with no time left. They will by 3. All these same people would have been saying, you take the FG and let the defense v with the highest paid DC, who runs his D, stop them.

IT
WAS
LITERALLY
AN
INCH.

Have yall not seen Drew Brees jump up at goaline and reach the ball out over the plane and pull it back? Maybe I missed one but I have never seen that play not work.

Its the most automatic play in football. Yes. Even more so than an extra point. Have you seen LSUs kickers lately?

We got stuffed on a QB sneak earlier in this very game. I’m pretty sure that factored into the decision

Well, he made it pretty clear early on in the season that we didn't have a field goal kicker. That only leaves me with the question of why he kept trotting them out there.

I was screaming to go for it, but either decision is fine. Sometimes shite doesnt work out like you planned. It happens. Got stuffed earlier in the game, I can see the hesitation.

Yeah but that shouldn't affect decision making.

In blackjack back in the day card counters would get smashed sometimes because for days the 40% is prevailing over their edge. That doesn't change your process because in the long run the percentages even out.

You can't worry about one negative play or even a few. It means nothing in the long run. Run the ball when you need inches to put you up 7 late in the game.

You forgot to say "in my opinion" because that is what this is. The vast majority of coaches would have kicked the field goal and taken the points.

LSU had already failed to punch the ball in on the goal line. Notre Dame's kicker had already made FG's from 46 and 49 yards.

You take the points and expect the worse thing that may happen is the game goes to OT IF ND can get into field goal range.

I think O thought he'd get the points and turn it over to the defense but we didn't do too good of a job stopping them on their previous td therefore he should have gone for it. Only things I question defensively at the end is not blitzing more on earlier downs and not having Greedy on Boykin. Definitely wasn't Aranda's fault, lousy attempt (lack of) tackle/strip of player/ball by both Jackson and Battle. If we couldn't qb sneak for 3 inches you don't deserve to win. We qb sneaked earlier and didnt score but it was from 1-1.5 yards out.
