He hired the right guys on the offensive side of the ball for recruiting but no one on the defensive side turned heads. House wasn’t connecting down here even if he wanted to recruit. Steeples was probably the only guy on that side of the ball the players liked

The OC was a straight yankee. How was he better suited to recruit?

Because he wasn’t the lead recruiter for anyone

Sloan, Hankton, Davis and Frank recruited everybody on offense

Clearly we did a much better job recruiting the offensive side the past two years. Maybe we can flip that to defense. We picked up a couple big time defensive players with the promise of better days. With real success, the sky is the limit.

Hell, they got guys on defense too. I was surprised to see Sloan listed as primary on some do the BR area DBs like Kylin Jackson and McBryde

And the greatest football recruiter of the South in the past 50 years was a West Virginian. None of that shite matters. The great recruiters in my business recruit up north just fine.

Yeah, that's why guys like Urban Myer and Les Miles were such awful recruiters in the SEC, straight Yankees.

Yankee?

You closet KKlukers disgust me.

Do you actually believe that a potential recruit gives a crap about where the coach was born?

It's time to let your Stars and Bars go, baws.

Recruiting wasn’t the issue. Scheme, player development, and in game adjustments were deficient.

Coaching always will be the greater differentiator.

Steeples is going to be somebody down the road. Unfortunate that he got caught up with a bad staff.

Recruiting definitely the biggest issue lol.

Not so much their fault given the lack of talent left over from the O era, but the defensive talent has not been streamlined fast enough especially at DT & CB/S.

Everyone wants an “attacking & aggressive defense!!!”.

Like this isn’t the goal with every defense lol. You know makes defenses fast and aggressive? Nfl players. Which lsu doesn’t have right now

See Washington Huskies
quote:

"....It’s very unlikely that a team is going to be able to coach up and develop enough three-star players to beat the absolute best of the best.

That sounds good in theory. But Washington and Kalen DeBoer are looking to challenge that sentiment.

Washington’s quarterback was a three-star recruit, but finished second in the Heisman voting and has led power conference QBs in passing yards in consecutive seasons. Their top edge rusher Bralen Trice was a three-star recruit. He has led FBS players in quarterback pressures in consecutive seasons. Their left tackle Troy Fautanu was a three-star recruit. He’s a two-time all-conference 1st-team selection.

The Huskies have four players who rank in the top-32 of Jordan Reid’s NFL Draft Big Board, tied with Alabama for the most. That list includes Penix, Trice, and Fautanu listed above. Washington is at a clear disadvantage if you define talent solely by recruiting ranking. But there’s an argument to be made that this Husky roster has just as much elite talent as any other team left in the field."

Coaching > Recruiting

Because a lot of times assistant coaches recruit geographic regions not specific positions

. Just look who they vote for. That explains everything. They still think they live in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Defense is a different ballgame..

You can dictate the game on offense with a strong scheme but more importantly a great QB.

Fan’s comprehension of aggressive defense = getting sacks. You know who gets sacks? Good players. You know who gets to the QB on a blitz? Good players. You know who intercepts passes when a QB is disrupted by a pass rush?? Good players. You know who is able to play WRs on an island? Good players. You know what kind of LBs are able to cover the field outside the tackle box? Good players.

Look at LSU’s top snap getters on defense

Major burns
Omar Speights
Andre Sam
Greg Penn
Sage Ryan
Ovie Ogoufo
