How about this: How many SEC champions had a QB who was an underclassman AND was a first year starter, as JJ was?

See the first part of the post. About a third of them.

wasn't the last 3 years recruiting classes ranked in the top 10 or so???

no 07-4 08-11 09-2

we still had a an 11th ranked class after winning the bcs championship. we have 2 shitty seasons in a row( i dont think 9 wins is shitty) and we still will have a #2 and most likely a top 10 class this year after what many people consider mediocre seasons.

Way to use the disjunctive instead of the conjuctive. How about this: How many SEC champions had a QB who was an underclassman AND was a first year starter, as JJ was?

THAT is the valid comparison. Not a junior who has been in the system for three years and now is starting for the first time. JJ had BOTH youth and inexperience working against him. McElroy is not really comparable given the time he had in the system.
Yeah, David Green started all 12 games for Georgia as a Freshman before he was the QB for the team that won the SECCG after his second year.

In 1993 and 1994, Terry Dean played about half the games with Danny Wuerffel, so you can't really say that Wuerffel won the SECCG during 1993 or 1994. And obviously, Wuerffel was not really a first year QB for 1994.

But Wuerffel does show how hard it is to recruit a blue chip QB with a blue chip QB in residence even when the HC is a QB's dream.

Your examples for underclassmen AND first year starters?
2002 Georgia Bulldogs – David Greene was a second year starter. He started as a freshman.
2000 Florida Gators – Jesse Palmer(senior) and Rex Grossman (frosh) rotated evenly
1994 Florida Gators – Danny Wuerffel started the year before (in fact he had more attempts in 1993) and split duties with Dean agin. Fail on both counts.
1993 Florida Gators – Danny Wuerffel as a freshman splitting time with Terry Dean (junior)
1992 Alabama Crimson Tide – Jay Barker was a sophomore and a first year starter.

So, of your five examples of underclassmen who won the SEC title, only ONE was a first year starter who took 75% of the snaps. Another TWO were first year starters who almost evenly split time. Who was the senior QB to rotate with Jefferson last season?

Your examples sucked.

I appreciate the fact that you did not even attempt to refute the obvious fact that LSU would have been much better with RP.
the offense wasn't the problem in '08. other than the INTs.. now if you're tellin me RP can tackle better that JL and wouldn't have had all the pic sixes.. ok i can buy that...

Every team goes through dips in talent. I saw marked improvement in the 2009 defense from the 2008 defense.
so its just a fact of life huh? a better talent evaluator couldn't have brought in better players or a better talent developing coach couldn't have gotten more out of what we had??? all you know is ITS NOT LESS'S FAULT!!!!!

He's done a very good job the past three years, and LSU will become the beneficiary of Miles' hard work this year.
so, what will you say if we have a 8-4, 7-5 season in 2010? Next year will definately be the year, right?????

Well if we go 7-5 next year it'll be a different discussion. Just like if in the unlikely event we go 13-0 next year it will be a different discussion.

There's a never ending list of excuses. They have been formulated and added to since Archer.

They will never, ever, ever run out of excuses.

Archer's first year he was 34 y old and a first time HC. He took over a team loaded with Sr talent that won the SEC the year before and went 10-1-1 and finsihed #5. LSU's best finish between 1970 and 2002. The further LSU got from the talent recruited by Stovall and to a lesser extent Arnsparger, the records got worse. just saying.

Miles is a much better coach, but he also had much more expirience before taking the job, you will not Miles is only a couple of news young than Mike Archer.

I think JJ was the least of the problems and could have a bright future.

People are pissed because we're paying for and have in front of us filet mignon. However, in the end it tastes like overcooked hamburger.

We had what would have been a 2nd year starter on the roster and decided not to start him. If being a 2nd year starter makes so much difference, then why wasn't Lee starting in 2009?

The bottom line is we had two quarterbacks this year who were also here last year. The fact that we failed to develop one and had to start over with the other one is the coaches' fault.

I am not reading this whole thread to state the obvious. Guess what, don't care soph, jr whatever, he is still green. I will state again the fact that he will never get the run first QB mentality that he had in high school, out of his brain. It will not get any better til he is gone
