I realize a playoff game is a bit different but...

It’s amazing to me that these other bowl games are so empty- so few fans. I would think the family friends and fans would travel better. Moreover, the tickets are not that expensive for most of these games. Why don’t many local people attend the game if they live close? Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. For example the military bowl that is on right now. Finally, they have nose bleed sugar bowl tickets for 6-10 bucks each!

That's only a fraction of the total travel cost and a lot of people incur other costs with travel this time of year because of Christmas
I'm not going to a bowl game with 2 teams I don't care about even if it's 20 minutes from my house

The CFP has killed these bowls. It’s only going to get worse with sponsors dropping and players sitting out

Enjoy these bowls while you can. 10 years from now there will only be a playoff field.

U are right triple. It’s a real shame

The stock these days is very much diluted.

Were the lesser tier bowl game ever really that filled with fans? Sugar Bowl attendance like all bowls depends on the teams. UGA is coming off two playoff appearances and a Sugar Bowl appearance, Baylor is not a massive fan base.

And the playoff field will eventually be about 30 fricking teams bc people are never satisfied. We’ll have truly mediocre teams in the playoff. And yes, we often have mediocre teams in the NFL playoffs too. Yay a 9-7 Giants team won the super bowl.

Nah, the attendance at these shitty bowls has been bad long before the playoff, there are simply too many bowls. It’s mostly made for TV, so it won’t be going away even if they expand the playoff

It's like the Disney thread on the OT and what I said.
Not everyone wants to waste money watching teenagers hit each other wearing tights.
We love it, but others might think our obsession with it strange. Just like someone might think spending money on a Disney trip every year strange.

I don't think so. I actually saw him posting under his original account a few weeks back.

It was really just a joke. I think he can post on the other boards just not this one. He was on the Score Board this season.

You've exhausted your right to make assertions here.

I think there are at least a couple different factors.
You have teams playing REALLY far away from their home stadium. For example the Sun Bowl features Arizona State and FSU. Not bad at all for Arizona State, but Tallahassee is 1500 miles East. Only very hardcore fans/family are going to travel 3/4 the length of the country to see a 6-6 and a 7-5 team play each other in a pretty meaningless bowl. Especially when you can sit at home and watch from your living room.
Bowls are played on weekdays a lot of the time, especially the ones early in Bowl season.
A lot of the star players (if there are any) sit out because they want to preserve their draft stock.
The bowls are diluted. there are 130 times in CFB and having a winning season is something to be proud of, but I'll be honest in saying I haven't even watched an entire bowl game yet this season. I've seen bits and pieces, but I think the first one I'll watch is USC/Iowa, and that's only because I'm interested to see how Iowa's defense holds up against a pretty lethal passing attack. With the CFP, small bowls mean even less now.
A number of things affect this.

I guess you’re too young to have gone when LSU played there in the 90s
