I need an explanation for the "private equity" topic.

I've seen it mentioned on here that Governor Landry had a meeting at the governor's mansion with big money people to discuss private equity stakes for LSU. But I don't understand the particulars:

- Who was at the meeting (names not necessary, but what is their general prior relationship to LSU?
- What would the money be used for?
- What would the holders of the equity get in return?
- How does this upset the apple cart with the SEC concerning things like TV rights?
- I know there are reports out there about hedge investments on Kalshi that could pay for Kiffin's bonus if we won the national title. Is this related?

I am genuinely curious and don't know the background and issues.

Thanks in advance.

Our funding plan involves Kalshi?

TLDR version:

LSU has a plan in place to bring in a bunch of money to help the boosters cover their expenses, essentially funding their war chest in perpetuity, and the SEC didn’t like that they weren’t offered their piece of the pie.

Bain Capital is buying the football team.

No. The insurance company that covers that bonus stuff bets on things on prediction markets to cover themselves if they have to pay out

I don't care about the particulars of the meeting. I'm wondering why Sankey was so pissed off about it.

As far as the Kalshi stuff, we don't have control over how the insurance company chooses to hedge their contract. I think it's an interesting story, and I don't think Matt Brown (the main guy reporting on it) is trying to pin anything on us, he just typically pulls at interesting threads and this is one he found.

I'm not sure of all the specifics to be able to answer all your questions, but I heard from someone in the media that the plan should be unveiled within the next couple of weeks. Apparently, they were going to release it not long ago, but they wanted to make sure they had all their ducks in a row.

I do know that it was the top 40 donors who were invited to the meeting. There's podcast out there that explain it much better and touch on some of the questions you have. Most of it is still unknown, though.

This seems no different than when Mattress Mack bets on the world series to hedge his free furniture promos.

Moscona said this on AFR around the time when the Governor visited on Friday. Sounded like the plan was to unveil it then but they pushed it back by a few weeks. Not sure if it's related to the SEC fight or not.

It's probably not any different than that. I don't know if there are regulations around it because of the insurance side of things though. My ignorance on that topic is boundless. I just know it's a highly regulated industry.

I just think it's interesting. I really don't think it's anything more than that though.

Thanks. I couldn't remember who it was and didn't want to give credit to the wrong person.

I know people here hate him, but Moscona is connected. I think this whole ordeal the last couple of weeks has proven that, if it wasn't already known.

The problem is, it seems like at times he's just a mouthpiece for whoever his sources are. Whatever info they want out there, they know they can use him to do it. At least that's what it seems like to me.

I found his show during the coaching search. Knew of him but never listened before that. The fact that he has had the Governor on and the AG on multiple times in the last two weeks shows he's connected.
