I love JD, but are we a playoff team with him?

The six teams at the top of the CFP, the only teams that ever had a chance had: Stetson Bennett, JJ McCarthy, Max Duggan, CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, Henson Hooker

I don’t know that JD is the level of passer of those guys. I’m not saying he needs to be Joe Burrow, but he’s not someone who elevates those around him like those six guys do

We don’t have another Joe Burrow on the roster. We have someone better. NUSS

We aren’t a playoff team with the lack of depth on defense.

Nussiah reminds me of a cross between Joe Montana and Dan Marino, except better than both.

JD arguably had a better 1st season at LSU than Burrow did. Did you know we had a playoff QB in Burrow before the bowl game in 2018? I don't think many people did.

There is steel-reinforced ceiling with JD at QB. That ceiling is decently high, call it 10 wins, but maybe not a deep playoff run type team. We can’t go into shootouts with teams with him at the helm.

Going into the last week of the regular season we were ranked #5 in the CFP rankings, and absolutely controlled our own destiny to make the playoffs. It ultimately didn't happen, but just that fact tells you that we were very close, WITH DANIELS STARTING.

So, the answer is obviously yes.

I would expect the team, as a whole to improve. And I think (if Daniels returns and starts) that we should see improvement from him having more time in the system and a better team around him.

DEFENSE and D depth and Special Teams play are what separated us from the CFP in 2022. IMO, had Nuss been our starter in 2022, we would have been out of SEC contention before we played alabama. JD5 dragged this team into the SECCG.

I think him coming back would be a very good thing. Still not sold on Nuss and Howard might need some more time. Quality depth

So you think a run first qb that can't throw it down the field accurately is going to lead us to the playoffs?

Did you forget about the defense that bailed JD out against State, Auburn, and Arkansas?

We were fortunate that the SECW was very down this year, with even alabama not the alabama of normal. The defense wore out at the end, but we don't win those three games with out the D because JD was bad those games (plus several more).

Replace the word ceiling with floor and I agree

No matter how hard you believe it, none of us really know what Nuss or Howard can do in the full term. It’s a risk to have a first year starting qb when you have the entire offense back for what could be an incredible season

You didn’t mention how the defense screwed him against A&M and Georgia. Or how the special teams screwed him against FSU. And shite the bed against Tennessee

He screwed himself against A&M. We had gained momentum, and the ole scoop and TD turned it around. But yeah, blame the Defense. You love you some JD, I get it. I love a qb that can utilize our talent, whether Nuss or someone else. I know who can't, and that is JD.

Lmao stop. The defense got their shite packed. We had 4 total possessions in the first half because the defense couldn’t get a stop. A&M scored on all 4 possessions.

Defense absolutely lost that game.
