In perhaps one of the most inept business moves in all of sports, LSU AD Joe Alleva gave former interim head coach Ed Orgeron a 5-year contract worth $3.5M per year before the 2017 season. LSU is Coach O’s dream job. He probably would’ve signed a one year $1M non-guaranteed deal. Instead, this bungle leaves the Tigers stuck with Mr. Mediocrity for four more seasons with former head honcho Les Miles still on the payroll until September 2022. If the Tigers decide to part ways with Big Ed this year, it will cost them $8.5 million, $6 million in 2019, $4.5 million in 2020 and $1 million in 2021.

Thanks for the additional embarrassment, Alleva.

Your gamble on Orgeron had better pay off big this year. No excuses.

Alleva is not the guy you ask for help when buying a car.

Let’s go Bowling! Yes, they probably win a game they shouldn’t and then lose one they shouldn’t but get just enough to make it to a bowl game in Birmingham or lovely downtown Shreveport.

Fired Miles to hire Orgeron, and this is the “improvement” anticipated for LSU.

It shows how stupid the idiots were that approved and structured these contracts. It’s like being in a huge hole of debt looking at that. How is this shite acceptable in the business world. I mean this isn’t the government public sector. It’s private sector.

We still have shite loads to pay les. I wouldn’t have given orgeron anything but a 1 year prove it deal. Renewed the next year. Sonwe would not be in a jam as far as buying him out. If he didn’t like it he could walk. He wasn’t wanted anywhere else. Alleva is a fiscal fn moron.

NY6 or better in 2018, or Alleva and O can GTFO.

There are no GD excuses. You don’t get to make a stupid af hire and then make excuses.

Your hire had better fuching win big.

I’ll up you one. Sec west champs and or a playoff berth. Or GTFO. somebody pissing away all this money on buyouts needs to be taught a lesson. Don’t tell us we have to keep O because we fricked up with les. Not our problem. Learn to be fiscally responsible and keep buyouts to minimums. How do we do that? HIRE DAMN GOOD COACHES. If O FLAMES OUT we coulda just kept les until we found our guy and saved a boat load of money on buyouts for les and O.

It (buyout) really is the dumbest part of his hiring altogether, and that's saying something.

I KIND OF understand his salary for public optics, but in reality it should've been $2m per, and no buyout.

We need to learn how to structure contracts better also. The one given to miles was ridiculous also.

Buyouts in general need to be percentage based and change from year to year based on record.

Go 10-2 get 80% of remaining salary, 9-3 gets you 70% etc.

If he signed a 1 year deal for $1MM we would get absolutely torched with recruiting. You can’t sit there and say you’d send your son a top rated recruit to a guy that may be gone in a year. I agree the deal isn’t ideal but just imagine the repercussions. If he coaches out of his mind and we do extremely well you have other suitors and we may even have to overpay.
