9. The facilities do suck and need to be fixed. There is no coach's office in the PMAC and they have to walk over to the athletic administration building, which is stupid - when a kid completely sucks in practice and Wade wants to sit him down, he can't just bring him into the office and do it, he has to walk him around the PMAC and across the street and it's ridiculous. Also ridiculous is the weight room, which they share with the Olympic sports. How are the basketball players going to get serious about lifting weights when they'd rather hit on the gymnasts or the volleyball players in there? They're going to need a facilities upgrade to handle all of that.

The LSU Tigers basketball and Lady Tigers basketball Practice Facility is connected to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center through the Northwest portal. The facility features separate, full-size duplicate gymnasiums for the men's and women's basketball teams. Each gym spans 11,324 square feet and includes a regulation NCAA court in length with two regulation high school courts in the opposition direction. The courts are exact replicas of the Maravich Center game court and have two portable goals and four retractable goals. The gymnasiums are equipped with a scoreboard, video filming balcony and scorer's table with video and data connection that enable instant replay. The facility also houses team locker rooms, a team lounge, training rooms, coach's offices and locker rooms, a media room, laundry facility and storage areas.
You're full of shite. The team doesn't even practice in the PMAC. Some of you fall for the shite that gets posted on here.

macaoidh: Your post was well worth reading. Good post! This new coach has me excited for basketball again and your information affirms it.

There's an easy solution to the no coaches offices in the PMAC thing. Relocate TAF.
There are coaches' offices in the practice facility. And TAF must not want new offices too badly or they would build themselves new offices.

You mean to tell me LSU just built a new Basketball practice facility and there was no coaches office or weight room in there? Unbelievable. The amount of negligence/dysfunction in the LSUAD is staggering. That entire department needs to be gutted of all the "Friends of Friends of Friends" employees and start fresh. (Just like the Basketball program.
Why don't you do your own research before condemning the Athletic Department based on what some nobody on a message board says?

And you're the guy who's the reason people who have information don't bother posting it here.
The practice facility is at the PMAC. If you want to try to invalidate the whole post based on semantics, knock yourself out. Might even make you feel like a big shot. There is no office at the practice facility either - unless you know better than Will Wade does.

I believe there are coaches offices in the new practice facility.
It was a horrible idea to originally move them to the admin building from the PMAC. I'm glad they are back at the PMAC.
The facilities at LSU for basketball need some improvement but this is an overblown issue.
The players only come to the PMAC for games. The fact that the stands suck has no effect on recruiting. The new practice facility is very nice and designed well.
Eventually the PMAC will get a complete internal remodel, but the outside and the location are fine.

This is a specific concern that Wade has and he's voiced it to the administration and people he's talking to.

The practice facilities are damn near brand new. How many basketball teams have their own dedicated weight rooms?

You would be surprised at how hard it is to build support for buildings/office space for the fundraising operations at LSU. The go-to argument against it is "we should be spending that money on LSU, not the foundations," and it's very hard to get someone to donate to a project like that. The case may be that TAF actually does want better offices, but can't get it right now. Look how long it took the LSU Foundation (about 15 years) to get their own building, for instance. It's not an easy thing to pull off.

If there are not coaches offices in the new facility, then that is a travesty.
It was idiotic when they originally moved them from the PMAC to the admin building. Having all the coaches offices in one building may have sounded good, but it is a horrible idea. All of the men's and women's basketball coaches and volleyball coaches need their offices in the PMAC.
I may be wrong, but I believe much of the old office space in the PMAC is vacant. The TAF takes up some of it, but the PMAC is a huge building with lots space. It would be simple to build out some coaches offices in that facility.

Great info.
In otherwise horrible season, I think Reath was one of the bright spots. Before the season I was just hoping he could provide a little bit of rebounding and defense. He's much more skilled than that. He can handle the ball and step out and make jumpers. Obviously he is still raw, but he can be coached. He was one of the few guys who showed some passion early before everyone more or less quit.
In limited minutes you could see Jenkins could be a decent player, especially on the defensive end. The problem is that the coaching staff couldn't care less if anyone defended, so everyone just stopped defending.
Why the confidence for the "elite" class in '18? The guy you linked is from San Antonio, correct? Is that a Benford connection?

5. He likes Reath. He thinks he can coach Reath and make him a decent player. He thinks the things that are wrong with Reath are fixable. He also, believe it or not, likes Branden Jenkins. He thinks Jenkins will do much better next year when he's not fighting back from the knee. As for the rest of the team, I got the distinct impression his expectations are very low.

IDK how they could have built those structures without leaving office space for coaches. I really can't help but call BS on that. But the rest is interesting.
I spent many days in the new facility and there are no offices. It is basically two practice courts (men and women), a media room, and upstairs is a banquet hall for L Club or TAF events.

Basically what I got out of all that is our AD sucks.
We had a basketball coach for four years not coaching fundamentals?

Looks like no offices.
Practice Facility

Total Project Area: 58,960 square feet of new construction and 1,100 square feet of renovated construction
Two state-of-the-art practice gyms each spanning 11,324 square feet; includes a regulation NCAA court in length with two regulation high school courts in the opposite direction
Each gym has two portable goals and four overhead retractable goals; both are exact replicas of the PMAC competition court
Each gym can hold up to 800 people for special events
Each gym features a scoreboard, video filming balcony and scorer's table with video and data connections to enable instant replay
A central two story lobby and grand staircase ascends to the second level. The lobby showcases team displays and graphics, trophy cases and memorabilia from the past. The displays and wall graphics were designed by ZE Design of Centerville, Ohio.
On the second level of the facility is a Pre-Function Room that opens to an extension of the Maravich Center concourse. It can hold approximately 500 people for pre-game and post-game functions.
Other areas of the addition include a Media Room, Men's Basketball Locker Room, Team Lounge, Training Room, Laundry Facility, Coach's Locker Room and storage areas.

This I don't get. Isn't the head football coach's office in that same building? What about baseball?

Announced this morning on 104.5 that Tasmin Mitchell has been hired as some sort of assistant coach. Maybe in a consulting capacity.

Some people are saying there are offices in the practice facility. There may be one built, but not utilized. Basketball has a whole floor dedicated to it in the AD, and all of the coaches use the offices there. Thats where they have their computers and memorabilia and other stuff. I'm sure JJ would take players to that office because that is where the business happens for him and the other staff.

This is correct for baseball and football, but every other sport has coaches offices on floors of the AD. I'm not sure if tennis is still there though

Incorrect. While most of the practice time is in the practice facility, the men and women also practice on the main floor from time to time. I have seen it with my own two eyes with both squads.
And there is no formal office for either coach within the practice facilities.

Three issues with Reath, all of which (they think) can be fixed with some coaching.
1. Bad, bad hands.
2. Not a lot of basketball IQ - but of course he hasn't played the game much.
3. Can't play defense without fouling. Which was a trademark of all of Johnny Jones' players, and Wade absolutely will not have players who can't defend.
Jenkins shot .200 from the floor and .364 from the foul line last year. I was surprised that he likes him; I figured that would be one of the first kids who got run off. We'll find out whether the knee was the issue in his play - if it was that bad we're going to be cursing Johnny big-time if we get to this time next season with a solid player who would otherwise have another year of eligibility left.
