this is a 5-7 year project we have on our hands.
I’ve heard this kind of thing before. Curley Hallman pegged it at 4 years. Lou Tepper had it at 5 years to properly implement his defense.
It’s invariably coachspeak for “I’m in over my head here.”

Chill dude. Was showering after my morning shesh.
My prediction/point was: watch LSU run the table this year. 11-1, 10-2 will most likely get LSU in with an appearance in the SEC champ game too.
It was one game. I have zero teams going undefeated this year in the playoffs. A big fat ZERO. Not even the Irish.. That’s what the NCAA wants. Competitiveness and chaos all at once, across the board. The years of a dynasty are over IMO.
There is about to be a shift in parity across the landscape of college football.
The Nick Saben days are over. The NCAA wants diversity in its champions for football like basket and other sports.

Exactly
The true freshman QB is his golden ticket
He’s building that D back up to a top 5 D
That’s what wins titles…D
If LSU had a D last yr no question.
In the title game with that O. Which sputtered early too in the season

That’s why he hung it up. EVERYBODY can give their players Dodge Chargers now. LEGALLY.

It was a tough loss, especially to get outplayed so decisively in the fourth quarter, but I don’t think it would hit Tiger fans nearly so hard if it wasn’t the fifth opening loss in a row, with BK 0-3 in openers.

It’s all about how you finish. Get that one loss that a lot of if not all top teams will have. I got USC beating an 11-0 ND team at the end of the year
And possibly ND getting snubbed on a playoff appearance

I think Kelly is not qualified to address the real issue, personally.
There are other coaches that will have to deal with it.

This is a rebuild, will take longer than three years. Most important thing is to keep next year's recruiting class largely intact. Help is on the way.

You make some really good points that most here dont want to hear. No one here has patience.
Everyone likes to point to year 3 as the year you should be a championship contender. Kelly inherited the worst roster since DiNardo in 1995. No one wants to hear that, but it’s the truth. The roster was totally and completely decimated when Kelly took over. Our fans expect the portal to be the godsend to quickly solve all problems. The portal is only a Bandaid or whipped cream for an already established program like Georgia and Alabama.
Kelly’s biggest mistake, by far, however, was when he was hired he did not truly understand the recruiting dynamics in the state of Louisiana. He fired O’s staff completely, except the O-line coach and brought in a staff with no connections to Louisiana. That set defensive recruiting behind 2 years. He fixed that this off-season, but we are 2 years behind roster wise where we should be defensively. It’s now going to take 2 more years to get to where we should be right now.
The good news on that front is recruiting for the 2025 class is one of the best classes in 20 years. So… the foundation is getting stronger. Can most of our fans wait 2 more years to have a championship roster? Doubtfully, but the important ones will.

Starts and ends with recruiting. Ed O proved that. Les Miles proved that. Saban proved that at LSU and Alabama. Kirby is proving that now with UGA. The only coach that has trouble proving it is Ryan Day. LSU is currently number 3 in recruiting. LSU needs to at least finish top 5 year over year to earn another NC. Recruiting >>>>>>>>>>>>coach speak.

I am concerned about Kelly’s age. He 10-15 years younger when rebuilding ND program. Does he have the energy and stamina to do the same at his current age?
Posted on 9/3/24 at 10:34 am to WawaseeND
How about you play a real schedule or join a conference?????
Posted on 9/3/24 at 10:43 am to WawaseeND
ND has gotten better since BK left

Marcus Freeman is a really good coach.

so you have no problem with a 5-7 year rebuild on a program that has won 3 natties and played for another in the last 20 years. Yeah, ok.
Posted on 9/3/24 at 10:54 am to Tammany Tom
LOL
So a program that has won more natties this century outside of Alabama, should be ok with a 5-7 year rebuild. LOL
