It was a bad combination of many things. Floyd was straight dealing, so we had no one warming up. U.p changes strike zone and Floyd gets frustrated (which we have seen in the past) which led to the walks. We had to allow guys time to warm up.

Because Floyd cruised through 5. He was left in for 1 batter too long. Pulling a guy pitching as well as Floyd was after 1 walk would be absurd.

I’m more disappointed that they didn’t take a mound visit to settle him down after the first walk. He got squeezed and it clearly rattled him.

Ty pitched great. No need for him to hang his head. Proud of him!

Jay should have pulled him it was obvious he was losing his command even though the ump was crap. I hate when they wait until bases loaded with no outs to go out there. With Floyd’s history Hurd should have been warming and been almost ready to come in after the first guy got on base. I think Floyd and Thatcher did great last night. Hitting was our downfall and the ump behind home plate.

I think it is just a matter of time before this issue of the zone being inconsistent.

I was at the game and specifically watching the bullpen. Hurd was warm in time. You obviously start Floyd that inning with how he was dealing. The only argument to be made is should he have pulled him 1 batter earlier (before bases loaded). That may be nitpicking but Hurd was warm and ready. So no blame from me on those decisions. Pitchers were constantly getting ready from about 5th inning on. Guidry, Ack, Hurd etc.

There was a curve ball that was so perfect it should be in a training video. Ball. I got really deflated after that. I know he had to have also.

All of those were high.
He wasn’t getting calls later in the inning, but he threw 4 balls in a row on that one

I agree. He should have beamed Moser with a fastball.

The fricking ump didn't even know the strike zone. How is Floyd supposed to know. Dude was making it up as he went along

It was like someone flipped a switch. Floyd was mowing them down one minute and walking them loaded the next. Ump had a whole lot to do with that.

Floyd does get rattled easily and hopefully that is something he can work on.

I thought I was the only one noticing that Travinski’s style of catching is moving his arm, not body, so it looks like he has to lurch at every pitch. Bottom line is that ump was giving them absurdly (unhitable) low strikes anll game and then simply stopped giving Floyd the edges in the 6th inning. Y’all did catch CJJ get a warning for going up on top step to complain, right? I thought pitched an awesome game - game of the year against the #1 team in nation. Held them to like 5 hits. Tough game to lose!

Trav is not very good defensively. That includes receiving.

This. Guy was awful for both team all night, but he only tightened up the zone for one half inning. Unfortunately, it got to Floyd and ended his night quickly.

This. Both dugouts let the ump know he was bad.

As I said, the only thing that disappointed me is they didn’t go out and try to settle Floyd when he was rattled.

ETA: Wes Johnson is obviously a good coach, but he doesn’t seem the type to go out and have a discussion with his guys when it’s needed. I guess he prefers to let them sink or swim on their own.

Yah coach JJ fuk'd up that boy. He was doing well. Duno why coach decuded for some dumb reason to keep him in so he would lose the game. Makes zero sense. Ty floyd has never played that many innings in one game in a big game

People are blaming the ump for changing the zone, but to me, it looked more like Travinski just got horrible with receiving the pitchers. He was reaching for the ball and doing in awful job later in the game

Right when Milazzo came in in looked light years better and the calls were there again.

But, Jay had a colossal judgement error not having someone starting to get ready when Floyd was creeping up on 90 pitches

I don’t understand this criticism. As I recall he had 70-something pitches to start the inning and Jay had Hurd/Ack warming up after the first walk.

Floyd should have had multiple K’s against the first batter. He was still dealing and just wasn’t getting the calls. Then he lost his composure when the ump squeezed him. By that point we already had guys warming up, they just weren’t ready yet.

That’s because it’s baseless. There was movement in the pen for the 5th and 6th innings.

The biggest coaching error of the night was the called sliders in the eighth inning. We stick with fastballs and wake never takes the lead there
