re: I don’t understand Jay’s decision-making

it's definitely possible Johnson rode the backs of two generational players and a multitude of high end SEC players to a title last year and that he's not actually a hyper talented coach. Milazzo being on the team with Neal healthy and Travinski back, his obsession with Pearson and taking Braswell out of the portal are all weird decisions to me. He also took guys like Jump and Loer out of the portal when Chase Burns was sitting there. If he's hyper-competitive and wants to win more than anything you get the best guys.
It’s not some fluke that he put together a CWS-winning team. He has a track record of success, and it makes sense that it would escalate to winning a title at a program like LSU.
That said, based on his press conference responses and his decisions, he clearly is at a loss with this team. I think that the pre-SEC slate was fools gold that elevated the stock of some of the position groups (middle infield and overall pitching). Instead, those are probably the weaknesses of the team, and there is not a clear answer to the problem.

He made a great play in game 1 that certainly helped us win the title but going from a .300 hitter as a freshman to .226 last year and .229 this year is disappointing. He hasn’t been what he looked like he would be that year. It’s just a fact. And I think Jay plays the lefty/righty matchup analytics game a bit too much but he has to with Pearson because he just strikes out against lefties pretty much every AB

He's in the "throw shite at the wall and see what sticks" phase

Agreed. He needs to keep his eye on Luke Gaffney at Purdue to see whether he considers the portal after the season ends.

The guy that saved the season last year probably shouldn’t be forced to play a position he’s never played before and then blamed for not making a play.
There were a half dozen guys who saved the season last year, so don’t be melodramatic. I agree, though, that we should not be judging him too harshly for an infield mistake. CJJ is doing whatever he can to try to get some offense, so I don’t mind the move.

Kling and Neal shouldn’t see the field again

Unfortunately, that is all this team has to look forward too. But these moves could've been made after the MSU series.
Jay was way to complacent early.

By what I see in his coaching, he's doing so for next year.

To be honest it really doesn’t matter which lineup Jay puts out there because nobody can hit with runners in scoring position. Only player that has been consistent after a slow start is White. White is noticeably better defensively this year and Jones is hitting pitches the other way and curve balls way better than last year.
Other than that all retuning players are worse than last year and all new players have been bad except Milam and Larson have shown promise.
Every pitcher besides Holman hasn’t been good either. Holman would be an excellent Saturday guy like Floyd last year but LSU should have a true dominant ace for Friday night and they don’t.
All this equals a bad team. Jay will have some hard decisions at the end of this year on players who he counted on but havent produced.

Its not the first time hes been to the CWS.
He's so addicted to analytics I think he forgot how to be a skipper. He will figure it out again.

Herring has.

Yep.
He'll learn from this.

Nippolt offers nothing at the plate

And none of the players you have on this list can hit.

But “Jay” is gonna get it figured out.

True. Forgot about him.

Can you cite some an examples?

Sure, look at the mighty production from the rest of the team, and putting in an elite defender would only do our great hitters injustice… oh wait.

Name a better option at those positions who CAN hit.
