Except I only had to look at the one example you named to confirm he did indeed play 75 games.

I agree. But Ben was pretty dominant. I would put him ahead of Nola, Ainsworth, and all the other pitching greats.

75+ is what he said and again he said “them” meaning plural talking about the era.

Ben said this morning that there’s no doubt that Skenes is better than he ever was. TTFWIW.

I graduated HS in 1986. Easton bats were everywhere then.

They weren’t the Easton bats that helped it lead the metal bat market of the late 90s and early 00s.

The were the silver green models and the Black Magic.

Black Magic may have been a year or 2 after I graduated. Hard to remember exactly with it being so long ago.

I loved Nola because he just pounded the strike zone with insane movement and always seemed to go extremely deep into games but I’d have to say that Skenes is the more talented arm for sure. He doesn’t go as deep but that’s mainly because his insane strikeout rate

What was Incaviglia using when he hit all those HRs? Was he that much of an outlier?

He is certainly the most talented, and has the most upside. But Nola had a season that was just as good, assuming Skenes does not fall off at the end. Hopefully, Skenes wins four more. It would be hard to argue with that.

Nola would like a word. Let's see what Skenes does at money time, which is now.

SEC competition is better now than when McDonald played

But bats were more forgiving for batters when he played as well.

My point is people put Ben up on a pedestal and most of it was all done in a single year. It wasn’t sustained success like we see with Walker and Furniss and Crews and Nola.

LMAO!! This is plain dumb. Big Ben was a two time first team all American in 88 & 89. He had a lower era in 88 by almost a run and one less win. His freshman stats weren’t great because he didn’t show up till late March because he was playing basketball in the elite 8. You need to shut up before you make a bigger fool of yourself.

In the aggregate this is probably true. But there were a lot of future MLB greats out of the SEC in that era.
