I'm going to regret this but:
Who is?
And what would convince you?
Not that it matters much, just interested.

I think that's over stated. It's never irrelevant to be a great person, regardless of profession.
Let his record slip for a couple seasons and being a "great person" won't save his arse. I understand the point you are making though. It's never irrelevant.

You do see how well coached they are when lee is in the game do you? I would even argue that those time management fiasco's don't even happen with lee at the helm. He is in control, JJ not so much
Wait a minute, they are "better coached" when Lee is in the game?? Then why hasn't he been "in the games" all along? Fact of the matter is, no matter who is in the game, LM is in control. And, there were still some questionable time management issues in the Fla game, just not to the extent of the Tenn and OM games.
I'm not bashing Les here, just looking at both sides of everyone's argument. This Fla win hasn't solved all the problems on the team/coaching staff. Keep in mind the things that some people think make Les "loveable" would get him run with a few less wins over a season.

I don't disagree.
I was just saying for me personally.

I guess I have to join the Lovin' Les movement. The guy is the anti-coach, unlike any other coach you've ever experienced. He speaks a strange form of human language. But he gets the W's.
My heart is with you, Les.
Of course, my heart has been under a lot of stress this year...

He is a unique coach in a unique state. It has always struck me that Louisianians would criticize the way he speaks. If you asked most Americans what state has the most unique accent most would agree on Lousiana (South LA cajun to be specific).

In my book and my book only you are right but my perspective is that if you are a good person that is a plus. You still have to win though.
If you are a scummy person then I don't want you as the LSU coach even if you win all the time.
Thank goodness Les wins more than all the other coaches and isn't scum. Best of both worlds.

Gotcha. I've never had an issue with him as a man, father, husband. A couple of friends of mine are HS coaches and say the same thing. One helluva guy. Just gotta keep that W/L thing in balance!!!

It's definitely ironic.

Great thread. The SI Miles vs. Richt article summed it up for me perfectly.

Isn't that true of any coach? Let Alabama have a couple of 5 loss seasons and Saban is counting his money in his Georgia lakeside mansion. Let Florida have a couple of 5 loss seasons and Meyer is back in the caridac ward.

I like winning. Miles wins a lot, more than any LSU coach ever. So, yeah, I like him. and games are freakishly exciting. I mean, this has been the most EXCITING era of LSU football ever. I don't think I can take it.
And even in 2008, the team played hard. I do like how his teams always, always play hard. There's no quit in Miles teams. They believe.

THAT'S COLDBLOODED. But if he says ARE-KANSAS this year you're right.

By all means those are legitimate questions. Without naming an individual, here's what I'd like to see that I haven't seen in Miles;
• Better management skills, particularly in the pressure situations that seem to get away from Les
• More urgency in addressing major problems (2008 defense, 2009-2010 offense). I realize he can't get out there on the field to fix things, but the foot dragging, the week after week of "we're addressing the issue" without seeing much change is ... hardly confidence-inspiring
• A little more flexibility in his thinking, especially on offense. We go back and forth on whether it's Crowton or Miles who calls the show here, but for the past year and a half we've gotten the same results: anemic offense. It took a near loss to a badly outmanned Tennessee team to see a little flexibility in his thinking about our QB situation.
Bottom line—for better or worse—I'd like to see our teams as well-coached as the recent Bama and Florida teams. I don't think I'm seeing that ... and that's why I wonder if Miles is the best guy for us.

What if the Florida "Glory Run" of 06-09 had a lot to do with a certain individual with a last name that started with a "T"? I mean seriously, where's the great coaching from Meyer this year?
If it's strictly about the X's and O'x about coaching, did Meyer just forget everything he knew about running a great offensive scheme over the off-season? Must have been the heart problems.
And yea facts are still facts like the OP and other's have been saying in this thread.
Our Bumbling Baffoon is 3-3 VS. the Coaching Genious himself. Amazing how that worked out.

I have a philisophical question for you: If you had to take Les exactly how he is (a winner, honorable, great recruiter, puzzling, crazy talker, anemic offence, inflexible, etc) or have the well-coached UF or Bama perception with the possibility of playing criminals, coaches are dicks, self-absorbed and sanctimonious, and could leave at any time...which would you choose?

We out coached Florida big time this year. Last year we had Bama down until injuries cut us. We'll see what Bama brings to the table in a few weeks.

So those are the only well coached teams in the country in your estimation? And don't forget that your perfect coaches each had mental lapses this past week.

Eliminating the unnamed Florida and Alabama coaches because they will never come to LSU, who is the best coach for LSU in your mind?
