I am worried that our Zone defense is not prepared for Leach and Miss St

I know we have Southern this week to iron out some kinks in our defense, but the best defense against Leach’s offense is a zone and I’m not sure our zone defense is ready for that attack. Hopefully our offense will pick up the slack.

Leech changed it up last week. He was running a lot of clock between plays. Who knows what he’s cooked up now.

Well, people were complaining that we didn't play man coverage against Fla State, so that means we're working on zone.

I wouldn’t bank on that happening in their SEC games. Memphis isn’t as good this year and he knew they would dominate. He also ran the ball more than usual, likely because he knew they could get easy yards on Memphis’ undersized front and it would shorten the game.

You should be worried. Good chance Miss St. is underrated right now when you look at their roster from last year and the potential development. Not only that House scheme for FSU game was flat out bad with very little adjustment through the game. Lots of blown assignments and missed tackles. Easily fixed. Problem is we've been saying this since Aranda on our 3rd DC and it hasn't changed. Not to mention you still have the same offenders that can't figure it out like Ward. He did a terrible job basically rotating every LB on the roster in the game. You can't maintain consistency on defense like that. So yeah, they'll probably give us fits and at the least, a close dog fight.
If he doesn't start showing trust in his outside CBs to play man and his LBs we're in for a long season.

State is a much different challenge than FSU. Rogers is a very accurate and smart QB, but he doesn’t like to move around in the pocket and doesn’t have a big arm. FSU did a lot of their damage because their QB could buy time and keep plays alive.

I know but it was surprising and you know how he is, always in the lab.

He’s a really good coach and all, but he’s adapted his scheme far less than anyone else who’s come from his coaching tree.

Eh, a lot more option route and adjustment based than when he was at Tech, Kentucky and Oklahoma. Not saying you’re wrong because that’s a big time gap but he’s always tweaking things like that.

Zone is exactly how you defend Leach.
But to your point, we haven’t been good at zone for many years.

I honestly can’t wait for the State game. It’s going to tell us so much about this season.

I have this copied in an email to coach. He’ll get on it next week.

State was #7 in time of possession last season. Three that were ranked higher were the service academies.

If fans aren’t worried about State then idk what to tell you. We are weak in areas that play into their hands. Offensively is our best chance which should scare the hell out of you.
Leach is strongest on 3rd downs. We have to go point for point with them. Hopefully we actually practice the offense against Southern while executing zone and tackling on defense.

It's not prepared

One of the most overrated coaches talked about on this board. There’s a reason no real team wanted to hire him.

He’s a tool who runs a shite offense that can easily be stopped.
