define "desparate in Omaha." at that point you are playing for the whole enchilada and every team is desparate.

That what I’m getting at. Once you make it deep into Omaha, every team is “desperate” for starting pitching. My point was that he likely won’t be starting game 3 of a regional.

I think talent wise Herring is the second best pitcher on this team.

Not sure he’ll get there this year, but he has the stuff to be a regional starter.

if Hurd is still available to close out a game, based on his performance last night, it would be a good option, if not the best option

10-4.

However, all the people on here last night and this morning about the pitching decisions dont understand that CJJ andCWJ are playing the long game and seeing who is ready and can be depended on in upcoming post season spots whatever they are.

I am not sure if Coleman will make a starting spot but if he does he will be on a pitch count leash... 80 pitches maybe?

It’s pretty rare for a college team to have the luxury of a designated closer.

I think that’s more teams not making it a priority to have a closer more so than nobody can do it.

I think it might depend on Floyd/Little/Hurd

Floyd has a sec era of 6.48 after yesterday. He isn’t in a good spot to be relied on.

All eyes on little today to see if he can put together a second decent start in a row.

Hurd’s last two outings have been promising.

I see both sides. I understand that that Jay and staff are playing the long game, but I also understand why people are critical of some puzzling decisions in a game to win a SEC series.

As far as Coleman goes, I think they are preparing him to serve a similar role as Herring. Having multiple guys that can be counted on to come out of the bullpen and go 50+ pitches would be huge.

I'm just happy to have options at this point. We're all kicking around names of recent solid contributors. Whew.

CJJ already said for LSU to get where they want to be at the end of this season they need Thatcher Hurd to be a big part of the staff!

Exactly. They were likely trying pitch Nate and Thatcher to end the game while saving Herring, Nate, and Hurd all together. Both can pitch again this weekend if needed.
