Unless you're Oklahoma, in which case you can be ranked ahead immediately after the second loss.

It really bothers me when people say we lost by one play to MSU.

For beating a previously 5-1 team (Kentucky)
A UK team that had victories over UTM,Ohio,Vandy, USCe & ULM. Thats not that impressive and I'm somewhat surprised that LSU fans are acting like this is a huge statement game.

team that is otherwise 4-1 (Wisconsin).

W.Illinois, Illinois, S.Florida & Bowling Green are impressive to you?

Florida wasn't pretty, but they only had one loss to Alabama when we beat them. Combined with what I said about the losses, that's a better resume than all but 15 or so other teams.

Florida is a dumpster fire and will continue to spiral out of control.

All I know is that with this young but very talented team, I am going to measure the rest of this season NOT in terms of rankings, or Wins versus Losses...I am going to measure on seeing tangible and measurable improvement by each unit's performance and execution. I have already in my mind given a "pass" to this coaching staff this year in terms of wins/losses versus expectations from the fan base.

Having said the above, I expect and demand a top ten or even top 5 team to match the level of our program next year. That's just me and sorry if it sounds stupid....

Sounds like a personal problem.

JBeam, now do the same exercise with USC, Oklahoma, etc.

Show me 20 teams that belong ahead of LSU using that standard.

Was OU blown out in either of those losses? Didn't think so.

I think they could be ranked higher. The way I see it, they're still being judged by losing to unranked MSU, instead of #1 MSU.

But in the end, if you're not in the final top 4 of the new selection committee poll, it doesn't matter.

Frankly, they are overrated. This team is 6-2 as a result of 3 cupcakes (UL-Monroe, New Mexico State, and North Texas) and a talented roster. Make no mistake, this is one of the worst coached and least prepared teams in the SEC. If coaching could be accurately assessed, it's doubtful Les and company would make the Top 50, imo...

I don't accept that. I don't think this was ever a great season for a national championship run, so there are other goals to look at.

I certainly am hoping we lose no more than 4 games. We lost 4 or 5 the season before the 2001 and 2003 SEC championships. We lost 4 two seasons before the 2011 SEC championship.

Again, compare that to 2-loss teams ahead of them.

Are you delusional? I am happy to be in the Top 25 right now. We could have EASILY been 4-4 at this point had we not gotten a little luck in the Wisconsin and Florida games. Losing those two were much more likely to happen than completing a hail mary against MSU.

Were either against a team that's currently in the top 5? Didn't think so. Did OU beat two teams who only have one other loss? Didn't think so.

I'm tired of hearing this "single play" business. It was a hail Mary pass, which rarely works out. MSU called off the dogs too early or the score would have been worse.
This is the truth. LSU made the game look respectable late; before the mid-3rd qtr, it was a MSU blow-out and LSU was a sunken ship. Couldn't even make it look close versus Auburn.
And honestly, LSU was lucky to get out of the Wisconsin game with a win at all; for the entire first half, it was a Wisconsin blow-out in the making. A key injury and some questionable WI coaching left the door open and the Tigers sneaked out with the W.

8 - 4 would be a great team effort and equally great coaching job. We lose 20 to the NFL and have to start from scratch. I've never been more proud of the Tigers. These guys did not quit. And certainly they could go 6 - 6 and it wouldn't matter. Next year could be amazing. AMAZING. Throw Valentine into the middle of the D with Beckwith, surrounded by Jefferson, Adams, Robinson and White and we've got one helluva D.
