I don’t have any coaching experience , but for you guys that do , I’d like to know why we can’t put Perkins in a “spy”type position on every play and let him roam the line and attack the play any way he wants. He can blitz from the left or right , or fill the gap if he sees a running play , etc.
what am I missing here ? Serious

I've never coach a down a football. That being said, I am an expert. You line him up on one side/edge and let him race to the QB/ backfield 90% of the time and let all hell break loose

It’s not overly complicated. Just watch film of Micah Parsons and how the cowboys use him. He should be rushing the qb AT LEAST 50% of the time, if not more. It’s so dumb that we lined him up off the ball despite not having any other pass rushers.

The last thing any opposing QB wants to see is the eyes of Harold Perkins. You put heat on and fear in most college QB's and that's when the mistakes happen.

No.

You have to move him around. Sometimes you Delay blitz him from linebacker depth.

Yes, sometimes just put him on the edge as a extra guy.

You can't just line him up at edge 90% of the time. They will run at him.

I think baker will move him around. Good thing about this year is he got more comfortable in space. So I'm sure he will use him there some too

They're not the same player.

Perkins proved to be elite in coverage. Don't limit his playmaking ability by making him a 220 pound edge rusher. have him rush the passer a decent amount, spy against mobile qbs, and still drop into coverage/play a hybrid nickel role.

Because you only spy QBs that are legit running threats, and that doesn’t mean a qb who may scramble for a 1st down 1 time a game.

I don’t know anything

But you are absolutely correct

Common sense

Not doing that alone should be reason to fire him

Perkins would have had a great season and looking forward to to making millions in the NFL

Dude’s friend is space. Let the play run a sec. Delay the blitz. Find the gap. Once those big bears up front get a hand on him, he’s out of the play.

Especially if they keep bringing him in to score TDs in goal line situations on a somewhat regular basis.

Isn't all college players a "Candidate" prior to the season? way to go out on a limb.

Now let examine your statement, When was the last time a LB won a Heisman? What specically did he do last year to make you think this?

Sure, Shedeur Sanders had better odds than Jayden Daniels in week 3, but disappeared. Figured it was obvious I meant HP will be a legit candidate.

He’s one of the best players in all of college football. Should be a top 5 pick next draft & should be a Heisman candidate.

Mathieu finished 5th
Manti Teo finished 2nd (on BK’s team)
Aiden Hutchinson finished 2nd a couple years ago

Rushing the passer. His speed is elite

You put Perkins in a stand up position off the edge lined up to the quarterbacks blind side and you tell him to go make a play.

Its. That. Simple.

I think a lot of that falls on Perkins' shoulders. He needs to get bigger and stronger and he needs to improve his decision making. This season he was clearly lost on some plays, but some of that may be a reflection of poor coaching. Either way, he has to show he can break down opposing offenses and know when to rush the QB and when to drop back in coverage.

If he can't improve on his decision making, he basically just becomes a "chase the ball" kind of player.

Agree and or let Perkins play where he wants to play on every down. I would trust his instincts

See what the cowboys did with Micah Parsons. He was drafted as a linebacker until they realized they could use his elite speed from the edge to terrorize QBs.

If he has the speed he is a safety. He can blitz from the safety position.
