Will it be a slow decline or will Oeaux take a fast track to a 3-9 year?

Fourth best team in theSEC last season.

Beat the SEC West champion.

Lost bowl game in final seconds to a higher ranked opponent when a receiver made a great catch and a future high draft pick missed a tackle.

So tell us what makes you believe the program has slipped to the 1990s level.

LSU shouldn't slip into that level since it is established.. however, the OP said how many years before we are there.. Not that we are there just yet.

I don't really see LSU improving whatsoever under the current regime.. Maybe more 8 to 9 win seasons, but that may be the ceiling.. which is sort of depressing.

We beat 1 team with a pulse last year - Auburn. And they were on pace to blow us out before they remembered that they couldn't win on the road and fell apart. If that game is in Jordan-Hare, it stays ugly.

Oh yeah, we lost to Troy at home also. Mississippi State beat the brakes off us as well. Did that even happen in the 90s?

If winning 10 games a year is a must have for you Alabama would welcome you as a fan.

10 wins in the regular season should be the standard considering the amount of talent that comes to Baton Rouge. It takes great coaching to go along with the talent though and it's been a while since LSU has had that.

You have to gauge the competition too but you're absolutely right if it's in a year like last year where we play 2 SEC East teams that don't even make a bowl game. Then we play nobody from OOC, and get Ole Miss and Arkansas at all-time lows. There's no reason anyone other than Bama should have beat us last year.

- 5 teams fired their HC
- of the remaining 8, 2 are Vandy and Kentucky
- Missouri has been bad the past 3 years
- South Carolina and Miss St had the same exact total record as us

That leaves Auburn, Bama, and UGA.

When your conference had effectively only 6 good teams, and you are fourth based solely on one more conference win than the 2 teams under you with the same win/loss record, what does finishing fourth even matter? We spend way more money than USCe and Miss St, have way more talent than them too, yet we finish with the same win/loss record? And LSU people are proud of this?

You're proud of beating the West Champs? Why in the hell does it matter? We beat another 4 loss team.

We lost the bowl game. Stop making excuses.

Your post is what's wrong with LSU right now.

6-2 in West some years that would put you in Atlanta. O's first full year. Well not too shabby but theses asshats can't take it cause it's positive news and not fake news like these goons want to post. Don't even have a clue but constantly post crap.

And of the 3 teams head of us 2 of them were in the national championship game and the 3rd was good enough to go 2-1 against those teams.

The Troy and MSU losses were the only big negatives about last season

You totally miss the point. The response was to the claim the program is slipping back to the state in the 90s and that is far from the case. I didn't claim I was proud of being the fourth best SEC team, but that would have been quite an achievement then.

Its easy to just highlight the negatives and predict doom and gloom if thats what it takes to make yourself feel good. Most rational fans would rather wait a few years before making any sweeping generalizations.

From 1990 through 1999 LSU had three winning seasons , only one with 10 victories.

They went tho three bowl games, all from 1995 through 1997. Two bowl trips were to the Poulan Weedeater Independence bowl in Shreveport and one Peach Bowl appearance.

There were only three seasons with winning records in the SEC, in two seasons the record was 1-7.

From 1990 to 1999 LSU lost games to :

Vanderbilt
Colorado State
Southern Mississippi
Houston
South Carolina
Mississippi State ( several losses)
Kentucky ( several losses)
Texas A & M ( several losses)
