He may have gotten 1 or 2 more. Sure he recruited well but so did Miles. Truth be told Miles record at LSU was better than Saban's, 77% to 75%. The juggernaut Saban has going for him is the REC, end of story. His recruiting at Bama is unprecedented. Years of consecutive #1 classes and that is where it all begins. Yeah he is a great coach but other coaches would do as well with the Bama advantage. Downvote away. The truth hurts.

Depends on how many #1 recruiting classes he could get.

With the talent we've had...maybe 3 or 4 meuax! And he would have made sure we had a competent quarterback. Hey, it is what it is...we had LESS!

SABAN is not the coach today that he was at LSU.
The Miami failure taught him a lot. Much better coach now.

Saban wasn't as good at LSU as he is at Bama

He probably would have had slightly better success than Miles and still be around

Saban would not be the saban he is today without going to the NFL and failing. It humbled him and made him realize he needs college football and to go all in on this. While at LSU he always had one eye on the NFL. He was still great but not 100 percent bought in to the college life. After his NFL stint he went all in at Bama. Also helps to have the conference and NCAA on your side.

Better question is what would he have done had he left for the dolphins then came back to LSU after failing instead of Bama?

Not as many as everyone thinks. People confuse the Alabama Saban with the Saban that left LSU in 04. He was a different/better coach after returning.

No offense, but he didn’t stay. Why play a version of fantasy football meets the “what-ifs” speculating on the totally hypothetical, when there is a real football team and season to focus on?

Wrap your brain around this. He has TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS with out winning his division. He has a s.e.c. championship while losing 3 s.e.c. games.

It takes good coaching, good recruiting, and a lot of luck, brother.

while saban will be considered possibly the greatest coach in college football history, he's had a lot of good fortune break he way too.

That is 10 national titles, that's a solute madness. The sad part is Saban was a play or 2 away from winning almost all of those (excluding 2006, 2008).

With Louisianas talent I see no reason saban could not have built an even larger dynasty in the bayou.

That was just a little thought, I know there is going to be a bitch storm about who the frick cares, or saban is the past, I need to stop posting tonight, etc... etc... Have at it, but I would also like to hear any differing opinions on the matter. And im not gonna lie, tiger stadium would collapse if we had 10 titles in 14 years. That would be incredible.

One more. Maybe two more. That is it.

It is more than Nick Saban. It takes more than one person to win. It takes the program, the will to win, the school behind you, and so on.

- It is Bama being hungry enough to do anything to win. - - It is the Bama alumni who wanted the Bear years back. - - It is the more favorable politics environment in Alabama vs Louisiana. Every GD politician was/is screwing with LSU in every way...funding, jobs, power, etc.
- It is the more favorable funding for the school (ie. politics would not allow LSU to build the nutrition center when the program wanted, buy-out Miles when the program wanted, the program as to transfer MILLIONS to the school for politics, etc)
- Saban has complete control at Bama vs where at LSU, everyone was meddling
- and so on.

Saban was the right coach, at the right place (Bama), in the right environment, at the perfect time.

I wouldn't put it on anyone from La to have to tolerate that little fella. Glad he's gone, hate he's at Bama.

Right, which means they weren't going to the BCS regardless of that game against LSU.

they had one loss going into the LSU game in 2010. they would've played Oregon for the BCS had they beaten LSU and Auburn.

Agreed. While I try not to think about what LSU could be had Saban stayed, I don't think LSU (mostly due to Louisiana politics) would have been able to keep him long term. Another school like Alabama would have offered him an insane salary, that LSU would have been unable or unwilling to match. We've had politicians despise LSU, including our current governor who threatened to shut down LSU football and has publicly stated LSU coaches make too much money. No way Saban would have stayed in this environment, especially under Alleva.
