Going off memory.

'76 Cholly Mac had stood all he could stands of Pat Lyons and Bobby Moreau and rolled with Ensminger in late '76.

Curly Era - seemed like Chad Loup, Daigle, Walker, and Ryan Huffman drew straws to see who played. Curly dazzled with his 4 QB system.

'08 - Lee then Hatch then JJ

'20 - Myles then Finley then Max

'21 - Max then Nuss then GOAT Jontre

Any others come to mind?

Jan 2005 against Iowa Marcus Randle got hurt then Matt Flynn came in and then Jamarcus saved the day until the Hail Mary at the end of the game.

JD can't see wide open receivers and GN is a turnover machine, so we will have to use the third string QB quite frequently, if we want to get bowl eligible this year!!

Hatch started the first 3 games of the season, so it was Hatch, then Lee, then JJ. And realistically it was more like Perrilloux, then Hatch, then Lee then JJ but Perrilloux was kicked off the team in May so he was never actually a starter in any games.

The question then becomes "had to" vs decided to. If you consider Perrilloux the defacto starter for 2008, because he was, we had to use the third string Lee after Hatch had the concussion.

Nall was the starting QB for the opener, but benched at halftime. It didn't take long to shift to Davey then Booty.

It was Arizona State, not Iowa. However, Iowa did in fact beat us on the last play of the game in the Capital One Bowl. Saban left to the Dolphin’s following that year.

Main problem with depth is it hurts how you can run your offense imo.

So I Nuss has a high ankle sprain in practice then you have to scale back Jaydens designed runs.

It's rare that most positions get to 3rd stringers but it does happen.

Long story short, if you have to use a 3rd string QB your season is likely screwed.

I don’t think this changes if you have 3 QB’s or 10 on your roster. The fact is if your 3rd string QB is now your backup QB you are probably changing your game plan when it comes to design runs.

Clausen started a game in '02 after Mauck went down, then Randal struggled.

The game he's talking about was the Capital One Bowl on Jan 1, 2005 with Iowa. It was Saban's last game b/c he had already announced he was leaving (nice Christmas present). Marcus Randall, Matt Flynn, & JaMarcus Russell all played that day.

The ASU game was the season opener in 2005 after Katrina; Jamarcus was the only qb that day.

Yes, Andrew Hatch started the App State "Gustav" opener that had to be played in the morning. It foreshadowed what was to be a chaotic, disappointing season, especially for a defending national champion.
