Listened to that one on the radio. Afternoon game. Only no-hitter in MLB history to clinch a pennant (NL West) of any kind up until that time.

1. A kid threw one against my team in high school. 0-3, 3 Ks for this guy.

1981: In his second season with Houston, Ryan won his first ERA title (1.69) and threw his record-breaking fifth no-hitter. Pitching before a national television audience against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ryan threw a 5-0 shutout and fanned 11.

Prior to the start of the players' strike, Ryan faced Pete Rose in a classic confrontation. Rose had predicted before the season began that he would break Stan Musial's National League hit record against Ryan. In his first at bat, Rose singled to tie the record at 3,630. However, in his final three at bats, Ryan fanned him each time to deny him the record. After striking out in his last at bat, Rose looked toward the mound and tipped his hat at Ryan.

I was at both of these games

I was at the Rockies Braves game in Atlanta when Ubaldo Jiemenez no hit the Braves. Craziest part was he walked 9 guys that day, so nobody even realized it was happening until the 8th inning. I’m not really a fan of either team. We were in Atlanta for work, and decided to go watch a game while we were there. It was really cool to see live.

i feel like it doesn't fully count if it isn't 9 innings

it doesn't 9 innings is so much harder than 7... those last 2 innings is by far the hardest part because of fatigue. and you are pressing to throw strikes because you know if you walk to many there is a chance you get pulled if your pitch count gets too high. which leads to bad pitches that get hit

Guess I was pretty fortunate to be in the Dallas area for the Nolan Ryan era with the Rangers. Was at the game for two of his no-hitters, including his last, and then again for the surprising perfect game from Kenny Rogers.

Steve Carlton never threw a no-hitter at the MLB level. If you saw him throw one, it would have had to have been in the minors.

I have seen two no-hitters in the minors, both in AA. The first was in 1999 by David Manning, who eventually had a brief stint with Milwaukee a few years later.

The second one was in 2003. Chad Durbin, who went to Woodlawn-BR, had been in the majors and was rehabbing in the minors with Cleveland’s AA affiliate, Akron, threw 7 innings and another reliever finished up. Mike Fontenot, who was in the Orioles organization with Bowie at that point, was the last out. Bowie’s manager was Dave Trembley, who eventually managed the Orioles for a couple of years before Buck Showalter took over.

This made me laugh. Thanks. I definitely would guess it was a few years ago if he was on the bump. :)

MLB - the 2019 combined by the Astros, Mike Feirs (a-hole) in 2015 and Mike Scott’s in 1986 (greatest baseball event I’ve ever attended and I’ve been to 3 WS games). My wife threw away one of our keep sake boxes that contained my ticket stub during one of our many moves. That was the last time I combined any of my sports memorabilia with her crap.
