Read the first page of the mega thread or a majority of Ells posts on it

A lot of youth may contribute

Good experience in the batting lineup. The pitching staff is talented but young (four freshmen pitchers are expected to have big roles), so a lot will depend on how quickly they develop.

Mainieri said at the meeting last night this team is the most talented group of players, top to bottom, that he has had at LSU.

He cautioned the big unknown is will the players work hard enough and believe in themselves enough to put their talent to work.

He said if they do, we're going to Omaha.

And incidentally, the entire team was there at the meeting and they heard his words. I tried to watch them as he was speaking to see how they were reacting to what he was saying and not a one of them showed any reaction....all sat completely pokerfaced. Bregman was sitting three seats from me and he never took his eyes off of PM while Mainieri was speaking.

I spoke to Jared Foster before the meeting started and asked him about his surgically repaired foot that forced him to miss fall practice. He said he's 100%, no pain at all.

Still individual workouts, first practice fri
Media day is also on Fri
Staff very young but lots of potential, who will handle the pressure best
Bullpen needs to be sorted out once starters are determined
Offense and new ball should make for about 60 homeruns this year compared to lower numbers

A little early for Mainieri to throw players under the bus. It is pretty much the one thing I dislike the most about how he handles questions and the media.

Someone has done it in all of the baseball threads lately. Just ignore it. Russian has some people who follow him around and downvote his posts.

I interpreted his words as his way to motivate the players to work hard and get ready for a 56 game regular season.

He built them up by bragging on their talent and then added the caveat that they have to work hard to make it a "special season," which is the phrase he used in describing what it could be.

Everyone is downvoted though.

And those who Russian always accuses of downvoting are currently banned. So again,

You were there and heard it so I will defer. My interpretation comes from the nasty habit he has of throwing players under the bus and not answering for the staff's shortcomings.
