Let’s say fans/tailgating on campus this fall is axed. How many people don’t come back in 2021 even if all restrictions are gone? How many people just decide it isn’t worth the hassle anymore and figure out other things to do on Saturdays. Also what does the athletic department do to further squeeze out maybe regular tailgaters to expand on the paid tailgating concept that’s hitting so many schools?

I'd say a good number. I figured out how much more enjoyable it is to watch a game on TV, instead of going to games. You can easily watch other games, have easy access to a clean bathroom, be in the AC, cook easier, and most importantly not have a long car ride home.

If they lose tailgaters then this will need to die as well. They will have to scale back the paid parking and paid tailgating crap.

LSU has waged a war on tailgating for years now. I only imagine it will get worse not better

A very small number. Programs are already losing attendance as more folks watch in the comfort of their homes. But the diehard fans will be starved for the experience. It's not just the game, it's the whole enchilada of tailgating and partying. New fans will snap up any tickets that become available in the lower bowl. I've never understood why folks sit in the East and West upper decks.
Whatever is lost will not be "other things to do on Saturdays". If LSU is playing there will be interest from the faithful.
People have had the option to stay home, cook out with friends and watch games on huge HDTV for years.
However, the era of stadium expansion is over and was probably stupid in the first place. ADs will have to innovate and reimagine stadium configurations.

I think a year without it will make more people come back because they miss the experience
Plus LSU just had the best season ever

If there's a vaccine, most will return. But you're right, some will never return. The older you get, the more effort it takes to travel to games. Plus, some of the older folks won't ever want to be in big crowds again.

I agree...we’ve all got many years of great memories tailgating. The first sniff of that cool, dry fall air and well all wish we were there.

Even if the season is squashed or limited, I will be back in 2021.

My crew isn't tailgating. We're protesting outside Tiger Stadium. Our protests happen to coincide with LSU home games.

I figured that out many moons ago.

The thrill has been gone for a long time.

This GBFTL Alum only attends nocturnal games that are "Worth the Hassle."

I don't just HAVE to be in that stadium for every home game any longer.

Been there....Done that!

(Did I mention that the PIM is a contributing factor. )

A lot of people won’t come back.
Attendance is already declining because of the home experience: no traffic, great TV’s, cookouts, fridge and bathroom very close, etc.

Once people who never watch at home, have to, they’ll realize they don’t HAVE to have the LSU football in-person experience. They’ll still enjoy the games and have tons of more money in their wallets.

If we can tailgate this Fall, I’ll be there, even if we can’t attend games. If not, I’ll be there next year. I enjoy being on campus and going to games. But I’m a small guy...4 people. Not a big production.

Our group has agreed to do this as well. Whoever posted about that crisp fall air is so right

I have posted about this for years now. There are people in the upper echelons at LSU that despise all the people coming to “their” campus on the weekends and trashing the place up. In their opinions, it would be fine if LSU didn’t have football at all but if they have to put up with that then people should just come to the game and leave. Meanwhile you have the business/marketing people at the SEC who see tailgating as lost revenue. They spend all their time trying to figure out how they can profit from it.

Between those two groups, I expect to see incremental restrictions on tailgating until it becomes something none of us recognize.

I think it’s highly possible you lose a decent percentage of folks. At this point I fully expect not to get any of my 4 season tickets. I’ll still try and tailgate if that’s possible. I may end up liking that better than spending 4K a year to go inside and wait in lines. I honestly don’t know but it’s a possibility that I may not go back.

How many fans leave the stands when they see the BLM signs in both end zones?
