You are correct. We can't throw out a runner tagging from a pop up 200 feet away.

Agreed - The hitting has improved and speed can make a defense. The pitching behind the top 2 or 3 is a major liability, and pitchers do not seem to develop and improve at LSU. CPM might be a good overall coach for the program, but his pitching maneuvers leave a lot to be desired. He needs to focus on building a collegiate level pitching staff that can be depended on. He's the coach so let's see what he comes up with.

They don' t bunt

Coastal had 91 home runs but also 66 successful sacrificial bunts so a team can do both if properly coached.

What about the fact that many other SEC teams went down in first game and could it be the small schools are scouting the SEC teams better via the SEC network of games?

The amount of stupid in this thread...

Let's numb this down for the hand few of idiots

5 tool players at the collegiate level is like a 5 star football player. You're average team has 1-2 of them if that. You don't simply "recruit" studlier players because they will never come to campus when MLB teams hang a blank check in front of their family.

There are still plenty of kids that fit the mold that I was talking about. Corey Ray was drafted in the 33rd coming out of high school and now he is a first rounder. There are no signing bonuses after the 10th round typically if ever. So in all those rounds after the 10th we can't recruit kids to fit a better mold than slap hitter with speed? We are a national power with a a national name. We should be able to go from Central Texas to the East Coast to get these kids.

I really don't understand how Fraley doesn't have a better arm. He's built fairly prototypical but people on here have suggested he's the weakest arm in the outfield. I find that very hard to believe. But if it's true, that is crazy.

"He needs to focus on building a collegiate level pitching staff". CPM's LSU team won the SEC league championship last yr, the toughest league in the counntry. With all the inexperience on this yr's team, he was 2 games out of first place this yr. Coach Allen Dunn was the SEC's arse.Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers. CPM is in college baseball's HOF as voted on by his peers. I am pretty sure he knows what he's doing with his staff & his team. Good Lord.

there isnt a player on the team that gets on base more than Bryce Jordan.

even with the slump.

Well with that line on thinking you would have him batting first. Not 5th. The job of the 5 hole hitter is to produce RBIs, not get to first.

Ryan Schimpf is like the most productive badass no one ever remembers in the history of the program.

In 2009, Schimpf led the Tigers in homers (22), slugging percentage (.668) and runs scored (73) while ranking second on the team in average (.336), RBIs (70 to Blake Dean's 71) and stolen bases (18).

Also, the premise of this thread is horseshite. We didn't go to the speed recruiting until after Katz played center in a super regional.

Not hard to believe he and Dunn are not both exasperated regarding the pitching in many games this season, erratic is a good adjective to describe the up and down play from what should have been a pretty good group. Bugg was good last night, Bain was good until the 2 walks, the rest not so much. Line score doesn't lie, gave up 11 ER last night:

It hasn't. Mainieri needs to take a hike. It's for the good of the team.

Name a power team that has won the CWS since the new bats in 2011. It's pitching and getting timely hits or small ball that wins it all now. Baseball isn't the same as it was for Skip or when Mainieri first started at LSU

think he saying he wants athletic guys with the ability to hit home runs. Like a mahtook or Landry, not puny guys like laird

CPM had Jared Foster and let him ride the bench half the season.

Now has Bryce Adams and is running him off.

I think our tiny coach doesn't like big guys.

You can't be serious. Did you see Foster hit the ball his Jr. season? No you didn't. Because he didn't. Mainieri tried to force Foster in the lineup at the beginning of the year, and it failed badly. Somehow he came back his Sr. year, and was able to stay in the lineup and do some damage.
