One of the podcasts I listened to indicated it took him a while to adjust at first as he is from a small school and didn't see the best competition.....but that he is coming on and they expected him to be RB2. His pass catching skill are considered to be top notch.

I can’t help you make sense of things if you can’t think with nuance.

It's almost like some of you forget Reggie Bush was 180lbs entering college, he ended up around 5'11 200 (Combine) once he left after 3 years.
Pretty sure he had a alright college career toting the rock. If you are super dynamic athlete, you can be super effective in college at RB under 200lbs. That's exactly what Berry is. Now we live in a different age now than 20 years ago, we just dont run the ball as much but are more dynamic getting a RB the ball out in space as well compared to back then (USC a bit ahead of times back then able to use Bush so dynamically, mostly unheard of for college RB back then to have 40 catches in a season)

No one forgets Reggie Bush. It just becomes a disservice to the outlier player (Berry) to compare them to an all-time great outlier player( Bush). We are on an lsu board, so I get it. It’s a form of self-persuasion. But unfair to Berry if this is the standard you’re going to hold him to

Berry was a 5-star because he is an elite athlete that makes home run plays constantly, not like we are trying to compare a 3-star kid who runs a 4.6 to Bush. The point is you definitely do not need to be any certain weight like some are suggesting to be a VERY effective college RB. Berry has already put on 20lbs since getting here, the weight concern simply shouldnt be one at this point. He clearly can get bigger no problem. At this point for him it's all about being able to do the smaller things like pass blocking which is as important as almost anything for a RB these days to stay on the field longer than just a few plays a game. We know if you give him enough touches he will hit a home run eventually because thats the type of player he is.
Berry is hopefully a solution (maybe not as much THIS season) to the biggest problem we've had the last few years which is a big lack of big run plays from our RBs. Durham is pretty good here if we had an OL who could run block worth a lick, but it's startling going back in time and seeing how many more run plays we had 15+ yards from RBs several years ago vs. last few years. Just a big lack of explosive runs recently. (from RBs).

LSU released a clip where he took one to the house in practice. He's going to get his touches. The question is how long does it take for him to be comfortable on the field, and the coaches to trust his ball security.

He has all the tools, but played in a lower classification of football
Marcus Dupree and Eric Dickerson both played in a lower HS classification (1A-2A). Berry will be fine and adjust to the SEC game speed and physicality. I'm not expecting him to be Emitt Smith FR year at FLA, but he will be used as offensive mismatches vs. LB's.

Throwing Marcus Dupree in there who was built like a transformer at 15 is not necessarily the best comparison

Never said that his weight would prevent him from doing anything other than being a guy that can carry the load in the running game.
You had always seemed to take offense to “gadget back” (not a negative phrase) but what you describe your expectations as now is exactly that.
He mostly definitely will hit big plays. He most certainly will be an asset in the passing game. What he does in between, and how much pounding he can take will determine how much he is on the field.

Reggie Bush is one of the best CFB players ever. I think the most accurate parallel with Bush is that he’ll have to play off a more sturdier back as a 1b. And maybe by Y3 or Y4 is ready to be the every down guy. CJ Spiller did the same thing

He was electric vs USCe and UCLA. Fully healthy, he has a near-perfect balance between speed and power for a RB.

Would you rather Berry on the field for 60 snaps or 25?
Would you rather someone trying to cover Berry in space, or meeting a LB in the hole?
What a weird crybaby melt

And he put that 20 pounds on quickly. He is pretty electric with the ball. He is going to get plenty of work this yr imo. By year 2 I think you see him become even stronger and take flight from there.

Some of the top recruiting evaluators have also compared him to Reggie Bush as a recruit; it's not just LSU fans pumping sunshine.

It’s an easy (and lazy) one for sure

I feel like you want to be heavier running between the tackles…
