How good of a find was Beth Torina?

I think she has long been considered Alleva's best hire to date but I didn't realize how obscure of a hire she was. She coached at Florida International with no tourney appearances and a so-so record (129-111).

Since arriving at LSU, she has shown an uncanny ability to have the team peaking at the right time and making tourney runs. I don't follow softball that much but was she highly regarded in the softball world and considered a "can't miss" at the time she was hired?

Lucky is the correct word

Alleva's best hire was when he had to react the fastest without thinking

she was a replacement for the dude Alleva hired, who then left abruptly.

She was Alleva's second choice after LSU hired the Alabama softball coach, introduced him at an announcement press conference and he changed his mind, back out of accepting the job the next day and returned to Alabama.

Don't know, but superior to the previous coach/color commentator. Wow, she and Lynn Rollins are worse than bad as a team.

I understand that but she still had to be "found". You have to give him a little credit

Sure, at least he didn't just promote a defensive line coach after a 3 month search.....

I also believe Yvette recommended Beth Torina as her replacement after Murphy went back to Alabama.

It's sad, yet fitting, that Alleva had to preside over a colossal frick up to bumblefrick his way to his greatest accomplishment.

How exactly did Alleva screw it up? Did he do something to make Murphy change his mind?

Well, Torina wasn't even the second choice if anyone bothered to remember the facts.

Unfortunately, as it turns out, he tried to do the equivalent. Thankfully, Habetz said no. She wasn't even our D Line coach (equivalent). Alleva couldn't even hire Alabama's assistant coach.

Realistically, would we have actually done better with Bama's coach over BT?

Ummm she was a very known quantity in the softball circles. She coached in Houston and gave private pitching lessons to a friends granddaughter.

People definitely knew her.
