The transfer portal is a cancer to CFB

Yes! It's awful that 19 year old kids get to change their mind about where they go to college.

The same as we always have. Top recruits constantly went to “the highest bidder” long before NIL was a thing.

That’s the solution to save college football. If you buy the best players every year does it take away the fun?

Has it been fun the last 40 years?

So you outbid other teams to bring in a hotshot recruit, only to lose him the next year to a higher bidder. Again, this isn’t a sustainable model

That’s capitalism.

agree there need to be clear regulations but the best player in LSU football history came from the portal.

Burrow was a grad transfer that predated the portal:

When will you guys ever get that through your thick skulls?

At least not yet! K. Boutee was considering bolting LSU for another school until Gordon Mckernan paid him to stay at LSU!

Again, that was in the middle of a coaching change. You lose your head coach, OC, and position coach you are probably feeling some uncertainty in a year where he’s going to be draft eligible.

You are correct - he didn’t technically come through the portal since he transferred like 3 months before the portal was implemented. Not sure why that’s super relevant, but it is technically true.

We also fired our HC, OC, WR, and his QB transfered going into his 3rd year.

There was a lot more than just money in play.

I don't think it's destroying college football but it is destroying teams like LSU and Oklahoma. Contrary, some teams that have never been able to compete like aTm and Jackson State are all of a sudden able to compete with the big boys. We put a ton of money into facilities and coaches and now with NIL that's a 3rd expense. Can the LSU program generate enough cash to compete?

We shall see but our future outside of having a good coach looks bleak from a roster standpoint.

It’s not that bleak man. Finish strong this cycle and sign a full class next year and we’re back to good numbers.

If we didn’t have to spend $17 mil on a buyout I bet this situation looks a whole lot different.

It’ll be like the Americans beating The Russians in Hockey when one of the “have nots” get a shot at the prize. MoneyBall geniuses will be honored and prized going forward from those not amongst The Empire teams that dominate.
