I liked him. Unfortunately, he couldn't disconnect from the Toss Dive offense.

I really liked Les until the last 2-3 years. I will never forgive him for the debacle that was the 2012 BCS game. It’s not that he lost, it was how he lost. The man was amazingly stubborn.

Very good the first half of his career.
He got comfortable and settled.

A very good CEO of a big time program. Played in 2 Nat'l Championship games.
A disaster with QB recruiting and speaking with the media.
Ran into the perfect storm to derail his LSU Career.
1. Nick Saban ( former LSU coach ) became the coach of Alabama, of all places.
2. His state all of a sudden at the same time quit producing 4 star QB's.
3. His AD was undermining him during this same stretch.

If he had been hired before Saban, he would have been gone before his 4th year with no NC He under performed with so much NFL talent.

Better at managing a program than the previous guy.
But as the trends in football change you either change or go away.

Retard that backed into a title and also managed to piss away multiple chances, then refused to fire buddies.
It shows LSU can win with a dumb coach.

I liked him. He really cared about LSU and the players. He just got in over his head. As great of a guy as he was didn’t translate into being a great coach.

2 loss Les is how he should be known. Guy always found a way to lose 2 games with the best roster in all of college football.

Who was the AD that hired Miles?

The guys shitting on Miles in this thread really need to go back and evaluate how close Miles was to pushing multiple NC teams past the 2 title appearances he had if Saban wasn't in the conference. I don't think you guys realize how close LSU could've been to a dynasty or at the very least several extra NC appearances under Miles tenure. In his prime of course.

You sure he was a great guy considering all the law suits he got LSU in and why he was fired from ku

underrated with an outdate offense
overrated with a lot of talent
good coach who got beat by the times
His public persona was goofy, but I think he understood football well. What he did, had LSU winning more consistently than what Saban had AT LSU.
He's kinda the original Kirby Smart, a few consecutive strong seasons capped with a Natty, which then locked in the recruiting process for a decade afterwards. Could be aggressive when he had the offensive tools, otherwise knew how to win 8-10 games a year with a great defense and an offense that "wouldn't lose the game". Held his own against Urban Meyer at Florida, which was no small feat.
Ultimate undoing, in my opinion, was that he wanted a dynamic dual-threat QB, instead of a pocket guy. Wanted his DeShawn Watson, never got the guy to be that. I know people argue about JJ or Harris being "dual threat", but they had the athletic ability he wanted... JJ had tons of long runs, and I remember seeing Harris easily outrun edge rushers who looked to have the angle on him. But Miles could never land a DT good enough to make it work (other than Perilloux).

Good over all coach, recruiter and face of the brand at the start.
Then became boring, stale, stubborn and a constant liar.
Much like Ed he failed after he had great success.
In war and sport nothing brings failure like the confidence great victories can give.
