How do LSU fans view Joe Alleva’s part in LSU’s historic 2019 season?

I know tRant hates transitive properties, but I think it’s safe to say that without Joe Alleva, LSU doesn’t have the season they just acccomplished. Alleva hired O, O hired E and Brady, staff convinced Burrow to transfer. Profit.

Will time heal the Alleva blunders prior to the 2019 season? Can’t imagine how irritating it must have been to have an AD so incompetent, yet lucky when it comes to hiring coaches. Curious to hear your thoughts for an outsider.

He put the pieces in place but mostly through his own ability to frick everything up and overall I think he just got lucky. He has a laundry list of items he’s done to hurt multiple schools and I don’t think it’s much of a stretch that even he didn’t actually think Ed Orgeron was going to win a national championship in year 3.

Backed into a good hire because he was totally incompetent in the way he did business.

He's a moron who stumbled arse first into what has turned out to be a really good coaching hire. Nothing more.

There's a reason he's no longer an AD anywhere.

Some would say, you would rather be lucky than good. You could honestly do a 30 for 30 on how everything went down. IMO, I think his image will get better with time.

Alleva was not nearly as bad as people now suggest.
However, he was an insufferable jerk with a sense of self importance well out of proportion to his abilities. Such people do not survive errors well.

A lot of LSU fans dislike Alleva because of the Will Wade situation, & yes he boggled the Football head coaching search (reportedly both Jimbo and Herman wanted a lot of money) and the Coach O hire seemed as an afterthought (and presumed flop).

In totality he wasn't that bad. LSU won many NCAA championships (Track and Field), saw renovations for Gymnastics (not to mention a historic program), baseball won a championship, so did golf. He bungled some hires (Johnny Jones/Nikki Fargas) but recouped with the Wade Hire.

However he shouldn't get credit for the 2019 season. If we are all honest no one assumed Coach O was capable of winning one (and I assumed Alleva thought he'd be a placeholder for a few years)

I hope not. He was so smug and I'll never forgive him for what he did to the Duke coach. (Forcing him to resign or be fired.) I realize that was a separate time, but I don't think he deserved this job. He walked into a really great situation, IMO.

I also wish Alleva had called Miles' Arkansas bluff.

Also, what's to say LSU wouldn't have had more success sooner if Alleva had made a coaching change prior to 2016? LSU once established can be very dangerous with the right set of coaching. Miles walked right in and proved that winning 11 games and then a championship in like 3 years.. and now O has done the same winning a championship.

That's fine if you want to say history will be kind to him. All I know is I am so thankful that dude is no longer representing LSU. I am also thankful F. King is gone. I can actually be proud of the leaders at LSU now.

Nope, his negative actions outweigh the very few positives. Good riddance.

Are you a true fan and supporter of MSU Athletics ? If so then answer this question ... would you hire JA to be the next AD at State ?

I wouldn’t hire him, but I don’t see the relevance of that question in regards to this thread. Simply asking, will his imagine heal over time considering the fact that him hiring O was a great decision in the grand scheme of things, especially considering the fact that the majority of the fan base opposed the decision.

Which wasn't his idea to begin with and he said was the biggest mistake of his tenure at LSU.

I don't think you understand how he ended up hiring O. O wasn't in his top 3 choices.

Most fans would like to forget Joe Alleva, but he did make the correct hire in Coach O and the rest is history. I will give him credit for that, but not really anything else.
