i dont think Sheppard can throw it like Martinez or Robinson. Thats pretty important. If youre too 1 dimensional, youre just another JJ... albeit faster.

No, they really don't. Russell Shepard is not who you think he is.

Yeah because Trindon could cut and juke. Not to mention how athletic he was...

I remember how FSU used Peter Warrick. ugh.
Or David Palmer. Even Stallings knew how to use him.

RS will graduate from LSU as an average player bc of miles. Way to go coaches

1) Russell Shepard is NOT Taylor Martinez or Denard Robinson. His time in the 40 might be similar but these guys have cutting abilities and just appear to me to be harder to contain than Sheppard. I have not seen that break-it-to-the-house-on-any-play threat with Sheppard ...yet.
Touching the ball every snap vs. 2-3 carries a game.

2) As others have said, you can't really compare the two and not mention the quality of defenses they've been up against. LSU opponents defenses>> Nebraskas or Michigans.
Name ONE great defense LSU has faced so far this year. Just one will do.

I'm amazed that anyone could actually have something this backward.
Shep is not as big as those guys, but he certainly isn't lacking in the "cutting abilities" department.
His arm is the question, but all we have are practice reports saying that he can't throw a college football.
When Shep was being recruited, if I had said to the Miles lovers that he would never get a shot at QB, never play in the wildcat, and in general not be treated as a special playmaker by Miles, all of them would have called complete bullshite. Now that that's actually the reality, of course it must be b/c he was overrated.
Never mind the reels upon reels of film showing him to be one of the most special high school playmakers ever, throwing lots of passes downfield, and in general just being a phenom. Nope, it MUST be that it's his fault and not the fault of Les Miles.

This is very simple - Pellini is getting more out of the available talent at Nebraska than LM is at LSU.
I'd love to have an offense here that can move the ball at will and score from anywhere.

He can't throw worth a crap...he knows it, the coaches know it and every opponent knows it. The Michigan and Nebraska QB's have JJ type arms...not great (JL) but not sorry (RS).

I saw that. That Martinez kid is something special, isn't he?
It sure looks like the Huskers have themselves a future Heisman candidate behind center....

He used to be able to. What happened?
Didn't they have him at camp while he was being recruited? Surely they believed he could throw the ball when they recruited him as a QB?
You don't mean that the super-classy damn strong family man was being dishonest during RS's recruitment, do you?

Level of competition...you can get away with having a weak arm in HS, you may can get away with having a mediocre arm (JJ) in college and then you definitely can't get away with having a mediocre arm in the pros...

just a pair of wheels. no hands, goes down when you look at him.
no better or worse than trindon imo.
come the frick on man ? nobody knows what RS is capable of because he isnt being used properly. we have seen enough glimpses of greatness to know that your TH comparison is just dumb.

How can Russell Shepard watch Nebraska?
And not feel like he is being misused

Many on this rant think that MILES IS OVERATED!!!!!

Posted on 10/8/10 at 8:39 am to arkytiger
Shepard is not nearly as talented as Martinez. Its clear. Now with that said, with the right coaching he may be able to function in that kind of offense, but so far he is just a fast guy who can't catch, can't run through tackles and is very limited.

Level of competition
OBVIOUSLY, but every recruit is playing a high school level of competition while they are being recruited
The question remains: if our coaches thought RS had a good enough arm to recruit him as a QB, why now that he is here is he incapable even of making easy, keep-the-defense-honest throws out of the wildcat?
Either Shep lost whatever arm he had in HS or our coaches just haven't made it happen yet.

He wants to get to the NFL and he KNEW the ONLY way to do that was at WR. HE DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY QB ! What don't you understand about that. It was HIS choice. Move on, that boat has sailed. You sound like the idiots that still talk about Nick coming back !

We have not seen RS try do to the things that those other 2 are doing. We don't KNOW squat. He should get a shot at QB. He can NOT be any worse than what we got going on right now, and save all the Les Miles tried him at QB at practice and it didnt work. PRACTICE! We talkin bout PRACTICE?! The kid is a playmaker. Put him at QB. I don't think Les has any idea what he's doing. AND to the folks who say its all about the money for RS, I think RS would kill for the chance to QB this team. He's a team player. He would do whatever possible within his power to help this team. FACT
