So LSU fans can kick him out of bed when they don’t go undefeated next year

Just saying, isn't this what were bitching about right now...former players as coaches.

Ryan has some spirit that this team desperately needs, but why not go and find an actual hitting coach.

He could make a serious difference.

How about you think of some one who would be a realistic possibility. Theriot as a volunteer assistant or replace Dunn or Cain?

But Theriot has experience from the MLB unlike a lot of these former players that are coming back for a degree or have no mlb experience

Guys, I hate to be a jerk, but....

Just because someone played the game (and played it well) doesn't mean they can coach at a high level. Coaching requires a lot of skills.

I've personally witnessed dozens of Olympians/National level athletes try to coach and flame out left and right. Coaching is an art. Motivation is part of that art. But there are a ton of other skills coaches must master to be effective.

I've not played a lot of baseball, and I'm sure there a ton of things about a swing that takes a lot of expertise to master, especially when you are trying to correct/make changes to it.

Just plugging someone in (because they were good) is not the answer. You need a coach that has literally sat and technically worked through thousands of different players... that's who I want for my hitting coach.

Just asking - what makes you think he would be a good hitting coach?

I 100% agree with this.

What is Theriot’s involvement with traction? Doesn’t he give private lessons there? I saw it somewhere that Cabrera trained with Theriot throughout high school and the main reason he transferred to Parkview was to be closer to traction.

While not necessarily on a “team” level, Theriot teaches at Traction, and has been for a few years now.

If that's the case, then I'd certainly say he's a viable candidate (if he's spent a lot of time going to seminars/clinics and working with tons of high level players and such).

My point really was that just about everyone in this thread wants him to coach because he played in the majors, and played at LSU, and went on a rant that everyone loved... thus, "he must be a great coach"

Because he’s a great hitting coach who learned under one of the best. He gave hitting lessons with Bill Dailey before he made it big. He’s a hell of a lot more qualified than the guy who we have right now, who had absolutely no coaching experience before he starting being LSU’s hitting coach.

ETA: Not saying Theriot would ever want the job, but he’s a damn good hitting coach. Not gonna stop the rantards from going on about how we need someone with coaching experience though, carry on

How do you know that? Because he played in the majors?

Woodward should just go to traction and do interviews if that’s the case. Let’s interview Reid Brignac, Trae Duncan , & Brad Cresse while we’re at it. Hell Laron Landry works there too

How about we stop hiring former players and hire a proven hitting coach? Great players don’t make great coaches.

Teaching fundamentals to young players and molding players into MLB caliber hitters are two different things.
