the only thing that could be impacted at the BODC tailgate, is the price per beer.

Kinda like YOUR reaction to the points I'm making about this whole thread being a bunch of overblown overreaction...

I said it might be too much for some in our group. How is that overblown?

$100 is lowballing it. You know damn well you spend more than $100 per person on gameday.

I'm sorry I got you all riled up, Big Pimpin.

Highland, Tower Drive and Old Front Nine can setup at 5PM on Friday.

Levee and Hayfield lots cannot setup until 6 AM on Saturday

Looks like our usual spot is now $40 a car.

I won't be parking there anymore.

With the price of tickets alone being $175 per game with the "donations" required for sideline seats, I'd say, YUP... more than $100 per person.

Again the POINT is that the $20 to park is the marginal "opportunity" cost -- of $20 to park.

A person could "save" a lot of money by staying home -- but they choose to tailgate at LSU because it's a LOT of fun, K?

You didn't rile me up... your post was just at the bottom when I replied -- with points directed as much at everyone else as you specifically.

We ALL choose how we spend "descretionary income" --- if anyone is spending "grocery, healthcare, or rent/mortgage money" on tailgating instead -- they are making BAD choices IMO.

If $20 a car cramps your world so much as to cancel your entire tailgate.... hmmm, better go get a second job on Saturdays 'cause you don't have the money to be out partying anyway
Last season it cost me (and wife) about $200 per game and that included tailgating with friends all day leading up to the game. This year would cost $220 per game and would include only the game since our tailgate is breaking up. OR, I can pay $100 per game and have an all day party at my house with my friends and watch the game on TV.

You don't seem to understand that there is a difference in what someone can afford to spend and what they are willing to spend. For me, the product just got worse and more expensive, enough that I am no longer willing to buy it.

ETA: I am not encouraging anyone to stay home, but it would be stupid not to realize that different people with different circumstances will react differently than myself.

I wish we were. I am hoping for the biggest clusterfrick in the history of the world to get it thru these morons heads how fricked up their plan is. We all knew the day of pay parking was coming, I don't have a huge problem with it. My problem is how its being done. Supposedly you can buy a parking pass in select locations on friday night or starting saturday morning. I see these dumb fricks have really taken the out of Baton Rouge fans into consideration. Trying to pay to park on saturday morning is going to be a nightmare. Fine they want to start pay parking at LSU thats ok, but use some damn common sense and allow season ticket holders to buy game passes before the season. This would drastically cut down on the mess, but no LSU says this will not be done. I guess it makes too much sense.

That messes us up, because sometimes for afternoon games we are out there way before 6 am.

Can you imagine how bad its gonna be trying to get into that lot.

I'll bitch, moan, and stomp my feet all year about the fee. But in the end, I'm a die hard tailgater and will pay it. I only go to two or three games a year, but tailgate for all. And I have people that tailgate for all, and don't go to any games. Believe me, the fee isn't scaring anybody off!

For some, it will be. Times are tight for a lot of folks. I was there myself last year after getting laid off. It could happen to anyone, even you. At that point, that $100 looks a whole lot different.

I love the games, but while the money is one issue, it is getting to be more and more of a hassle to attend the games. I am getting to where while I wish I was there, I am content watching the games from my den.

Where we tailgate, we're looking at $90/game.

ETA: sounds like they changed their mind on the trailer purchase.

I would have no problem paying for a reserved lot for the entire season. But they way LSU is going about it scares the crap out of me and will be a logistical nightmare.

I think a lot of people would prefer to just have the lots reserved for the season, but the problem is that would displace a lot of long time tailgaters who don't have priority ranking to get a reserved parking spot. The way it is set up would still allow the people who arrive the night/morning before to get the same spot, just at a price. However I agree it has a high likelihood of turning into a clusterfrick.

You'll have to get there early...probably by 9:00 if I had to guess.

You are very wrong about that.

Obviously it won't kill all tailgating. But, a significant number of people will not set up for the majority of games.

Also, a lot of people who only tailgate (who I don't have a problem with) aren't going to spend $40 a game. And, there will be very limited free parking. People who say they will just park in the free lots and walk are fooling themselves. The people who throw tailgates and get there early are going to take up all of the free spots with most of the cars in their tailgate.
