I think JD is pretty great in spots where he's throwing without really thinking too much. However, I don't think we can accurately rate Denbrock based on the limitations that JD present. I watch film breakdown after every game and the offensive scheme produces a ton of open WR's that are thrown to very late in their route, allowing the defender to recover. Also, JD is often hesitant and either takes the shorter throw OR doesn't throw at all.

The Oline had their moments but a lot is said about H=how JD's running ability helps them, so does him releasing the ball quickly and decisively. An Oline can only be expected to hold blocks for so long before they give. JD has had many plays where he's held the ball extremely too long. He needs to learn when to simply throw the ball away. His game would drastically improve if he became a throw-first QB. His athleticism helps him escape tackles but he never escapes pressure and keep his eyes downfield. Once he decides to move, its run all the way. He takes short gains in favor of bigger plays that are more explosive. Throwing downfield is a bigger part of the winning formula than many thinks. If a team presents no threat to throw deep, defense play the short routes and condense the field. Safeties come down and are able to assist in the short passing game, as well as in the run game. It makes it soo much harder for teams to run the ball.

Here's hoping to JD making a huge leap next season.

We have no choice but to ride with it.

JD maximized zero talent of those around him.

Nabors finished 3rd in the SEC in receiving yards and Mason Taylor had the 5th most receptions by a TE in one season in LSU history (and is two receptions away from tying the LSU freshman record for receptions). So those guys seemed to do very well.

Also, his elite running skills and the threat of him pulling it and running helps create big opportunities for our RBs on read plays, etc.

1. He had 2 TDs all season, which is a problem

2. JD had 3 games that were decent and then was figured out. He could do nothing productive his last 3 SEC opponents

3. How many more years under his belt does he need to be a good college "QB" that can make quick decisions, deliver to spots, and throw down field?

Why are you not counting his rushing TDs? You think Nuss would've been able to get around the corner as many times as Jaden did. Sometimes he looked like a gazelle running by a bunch of cattle. He didn't throw the ball as well as we would have wanted but a lot of times he made up for it with his feet.

Is it really a good thing? While it can be looked at as a positive it’s also alarming that no one on offense felt confident enough to enter the draft.

You're getting down voted but there is a lot of substance to your post. JD threw a measly 16 td passes.
Pretty poor and even worse when you realize 4 of those were against cupcakes like southern and UAB. So a measly 12 TDs in SEC play.

Crazy to think some people on here actually thought he was in the running to be invited to New York.

1. Didn't seem to be a problem when we beat Bama and won the West with a team picked to finish 5th in the West.

2. Daniels threw for more yards in the 1st half against UGA (the #1 D in the land) than they averaged giving up per game going into the game with 200+ yards. Please see our special teams disaster and defensive collapse in the game.

3. LSU has only been to the SEC Championship game 7 times in 31 years and we didn't have a top 10 D this year, so he obviously did quite a number of good things to help the team win enough games to accomplish that. He could improve on all those things you listed, but if he doesn't and it's possibly costing us Ws next year, then Kelly can pull him and try the backup.

True.

Sure, his rushing td's count. So does hanging in the pocket with open wr's and taking sacks. For the LSU offense to play at an elite level, he needs to throw to those same wr's even with small windows. Too many times the offense bogged down because he refused to throw the ball.

And are you also saying the fix for teams sitting back in the zone is jayden throwing more?

When the receivers are open, that's exactly what I'm saying.

Nope. No doubt JD pulled some rabbits out of the proverbial hat.

He was absolutely the best option in 22. That doesn't mean he shouldn't have to compete for the job in 23 though. There were too many times the offense bogged down because he refused to throw to open wr's.

they respect him so much they named him team MVP. I can’t wait to see what he does next year.

The only gripe I had with him was letting it fly sometimes. But with another off season with his coaches and most receivers and O line coming back, I think we will see him become much more comfortable letting it fly, to the open receiver.
Could be a a championship QB if that happens.

Jaray wasn't a starter?

He was not. Not unless base is 4 WRs, and it’s not. Our WR pecking order was:

Boutte/Nabers
Thomas/Jenkins
Lacy/Bech

So Jenkins could be considered a co-starter for the last WR position, but I think Thomas was the 3A with Jaray the 3B.

That’s no knock on Jenkins, whom I think will be a solid starter in the NFL.

Hold on a minute! Starters yes, but overall talent I have to say Bama, Georgia, Ohio State maybe has more, but lets look at our overall starters.

Offense- we have 11

Defense- Smith and Wingo on the DLine, Perkins and Penn at LB, Greg Brooks Jr. at Nickel and Burns at Safety

So, 6 starters on Defense and if you want to be picky Sevyn Banks started already, so 7. And if you want to really be picky Denver Harris and Zy were starters on their previous teams, and if they start or one of them and Sevyn, then we have 8 on defense.

But lets say just 7 starters from LSU's team and 11 on offense, then 18 starters back is very awesome.

Those other teams have stacks of 4-5 star players up and down their rosters. Georgia won the Natty last year and lost what 14 starters? And they look just as good this year with only 7 starters back for 2022.

However, we are building this roster back and things are shaping up much quicker than we all expected, just like winning the SEC West and making the SEC Championship this year.

“And as we’ve seen time and again, LSU QB’s never improve in their second year.”

There was a guy, think his last name was Burrow, that seemed to get better his second year.

Everyone discounts his tucking and running but no one ever gives him credit for his legs moving the chains in 3rd & 5 + where our other qbs just take the sack and we punt. Yes sometimes there was someone open but most there was not. I want to have 2-1k receivers too but his legs are a huge weapon and are the reason we beat bama and won the west…

I assumed that the rest of my post would make the sarcasm glaringly obvious.

Looks like I underestimated this board’s ability to have an attention span past one sentence.
