Wrong.. Bertman let it be known that they weren't going to pay any new coach what he was paying Nick.. or some words to that affect.. (I don't have time to find the link)

4) His only "questionable hiring practice" was Laval....
so, when he announced Miles as the next HC you didn't question that? I know i did, and most people, LSU fans or not, did...

now its me because you can't go one post without a remark. I'm sorrty I criticized the great and all knowing Stanley Bertman for having some flaws as an athletic director. Oh yeah, he ruined Lane Mestepey too.

He didn't "go cheap" on hiring Miles. Other than Saban, Miles was the highest paid LSU head football coach in history. Still is, now even including Saban.

saban was hired a LONG time before miles

the coaching salary landscape was much different in 2005

Berman's a bad AD because he didn't hire the coaches you wanted, but the coaches he hired won national titles?

How does that make any sense?

Do you think Bertman overused Lane Mestepey and essentially ruined his career?

Bianco even publicly said he was staying at Ole Miss before the search even started.
I will NOT be the coach at Alabama.
Sound familiar? they all do it. coach speak.. what would you expect him to say, BEFORE he was even contacted, "Man, I really would love to get the LSU gig, you know thats my dream job".....

Mainieri was Skip's first choice after Wells said he wasn't leaving Alabama.
that would make him at least the second choice... and if you think Skip didn't at least talk to Bianco....

Name one who was making less than that with more name recognition
When you come out and pretty much set a ceiling on what you're going to pay any new coach, you eliminate the upper class coaches..

I didn't come out a say i "wanted" any particular coach. I just have said I DIDN'T want Miles as HC.. we were one year removed from a NC, could have hired a MUCH better coach..

There are a number of coaches that could have won a NC in football with this team.. There are probably some that could have won more from the time Less took over till now...

The Little Prick did not have to play/recruit against CUM at Fla. (The Zooker beat him in '03) or Petrino at Arky. David Cutcliff was at Ole Piss and he didn't have much better success against Nutt than Les has. Both have had equal success against The Visor, who took over a completely moribund program at SC, UT, Vandy, Tubby and the Barners, Ky. and the Farmers from Starkville.
The only difference is The Little Prick never lost to Richt and GA. where the Hat has won only once. One of those losses has to be a pass however as the Tigers were an exhausted team in the '05 SECCG.

Just as LSU was a few plays and some lousy calls from the refs from playing in and possibly winning another BCSCG in '06 and one game from maybe a 4th one due to Katrina in '05, Bama was just a few plays and some lousy calls from the refs from NOT playing in the one this year and one game kept them from playing for one last year.

Now what the future holds remains to be seen but I'd say so far things look pretty even to me. And btw, Les has yet to need to win a bowl game to get above .500 for a season and he hasn't lost to a UAB or ULM.

The Little Prick needed overtime in '08 to beat an LSU team with a redshirt frosh QB that set an NCAA record for Pick 6's and barely pulled the one out last year only after LSU lost it's staring qb and top rb plus some shitty calls from the refs.

Are you saying you know for a fact he did? Skip told me he didn't. Of course, you could always say he lied to me about it....

That's right. But the other a-hole said Mainieri was Skip's fourth choice. That is a lie.

So Cohen, Corbin, and Bianco were never contacted after Wells? Ok...

I also questioned the hiring of Saban as did most people....but that seemed to work out fine too.

I know I sure questioned hiring Saban. All I knew about him was he was the HC Dinardo beat in the Indy Bowl a couple of years earlier.
