I can see the BS game-changing call now

quote:

Greg Burks gets the Horns down question. His answer on whether it's a penalty: "It depends." Says it depends on whether it's aimed at an opponent or just a sideline celebration. Said Will Grier's Horns down last year to the Texas fans "probably would be a foul."

Not the greatest picture I could find

One of players will definitely use that after a big play.

Your own quote explains that the gesture itself is not a penalty.

Brad Wing could have spread his arms and not been a penalty. He just couldn't do it to taunt the opposing players.

I am sooooo happy he did, though!

You’re right.

I can see 18-21 year olds calmly waiting to join their teammates on the sideline before celebrating the “horns down” gesture

When they do something that is a penalty, it'll be a penalty. I'm not concerned about it.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. If they do any "taunting" (we don't have to agree it is bad)..they may get penalized. Not a big deal. But, you seem to be projecting a future foul and arguing about it now. Odd.

There are a LOT of things we fans can do that the players cannot (during the course of the game). I'll cheer like hell if any of them do it. But, if done as a taunt, it will be a penalty. No big deal.

stupid rule. it's OK for Tejas to use the horns up gesture to taunt you but not OK for opponents to reciprocate?

just another example of unequal rules that empower the refs to steer (no pun intened) a game the way they want.

how about our coach simply tells all players that no one will do the horns-down thing on the field? Period. Problem solved.

I don't care about this at all. My guess is that the players don't either. We fans can Horns Down the entire game. My guess is the players don't hate UT or UT players and will celebrate big plays just like they always have and this will be of less than tiny consequence to them.

It is just no big deal at all

Before you point out Grier:

1) Conference game with huge consequences
2) Grier is a bit of a hot-head

Similar to Baker Mayfield

Taunting is, and has been for some time, a penalty.

All this does is classify the "horns down" gesture as a penalty when directed at UT players or fans.

Seems pretty simple as a coach to just instruct your team to no do it.

If horns down is a penalty then horns up should be one also

Will "horns up" be a penalty as well?

Then we create our own gesture of Tiger Fangs which just so happens to look just like Horns Down. How can they penalize us for Tiger Fangs but not penalize them for Horns Up?

Doing it to the crowd and it being penalized is stupid. The crowd can chant all sorts of profanity at the player.

Horns down is nothing. Sims suck it celebration at fans was too far. But horns down isn't inappropriate at all.

May be the dumbest rule ever. So when a ut player flashes the sign it should be a penalty too.

Penalties of any kind relative to taunting or celebrating are dumb and should be completely removed. Completely subjective and can change a game because what, to preserve players from having their feelings hurt?

I fricking HATE bureaucracy in sports.
I guess doing the gator chomp is a foul as well? What about tomahawk chop?

So why isnt it a goul if Texas fans flash horns up at opposing players? Or Fla fans chomp at opponenets?

This is all we need, more JUDGEMENT shite for a ref to use to change outcomes. They already suck and miss to many calls as it is
