If he could be 2025 Milam offensively (~.900 OPS) and Braswell defensively (~.950) at 2nd base, that would be perfect.

He'll probably be at short. But who knows what we pick up in the portal? And Brazzy had a .864 OPS in 2024. Not sure what happened to him in 2025.

I think he's got a much higher ceiling than Braswell from an offensive standpoint

He's also a much better athlete.

Both true.

His BABIP went from .358 to .232. Then, when the ball wasn't falling, I think he got in his head and started striking out more. Rose from 14% to 18%.

But given the rest of the offense was rolling, Jay made the (correct) call to leave him at 3rd and just make the defense perfect.

Yeah, I don't want to recruit over him, but at the same time you need to get a day 1 contributer in the middle infield. I hope Jay is able to convey that message to him. If he gets better, he'll have a shot at multiple infield positions.

We have zero locked in starters between 3rd/short/2nd. You have to bring in plenty of portal competition, but Ruckert will also get his shot to lock down one of those spots.

I think if he becomes Michael Brasswell, that would be more than sufficient.

Hopefully Junior Braswell with the bat and Senior Braswell with the glove. That man had some crazy struggles at the plate his senior year.

A lot of people are not going to like this Brazzy was a low key player that got the job done

Those people are ignorant. Especially if they still think that after watching our defense most of this season.

genuinely shocked how many times the moment overcame Ruckert this season.

He’s been a lot more settled in the field over the last 3 weeks, but that play was rough. He definitely got sped up and just blew it.

If I’m being optimistic, his mind was in the right place and processed the situation at a very high level, especially for a freshman. He just blew the throw.

CJJ is going to go find a 2nd baseman and 3rd baseman or a guy who can play both if Pearson stays at 3rd as the everyday guy.

No way Pearson is starting at 3rd next season without injuries. If he stays, he will be a sub infielder and PH. He’s just not an SEC-level athlete. And if he sees that writing on the wall and wants to play more, maybe he heads somewhere like ULL or LA Tech. I applaud him for how much he improved at 3rd, but we need better and he doesn’t appear to have another gear.

I expect 2 or 3 portal guys and a freshman or two brought in to battle for infield spots with Ruckert and several potentially in line at 1st. Depending on who stays and how it shakes out, that could be Bide, Serna, Yamin or Braun. I only list Braun last because of how much we lose in the outfield and his experience there. None of Bide, Serna, or Yamin are playing out there. Yamin was a terrible fit when they tried that.

I think he actually has a mild case of the yips. There were times he looked uncomfortable and not confident even on routine plays in a mid week game. It could be something that never happens again or it may linger.

Assuming he gets through that I think the bigger issue is he appeared to be stiff in his movements and footwork, not as fluid as you would want a MIF to be.

Why?

Because he played SS at one of the best baseball programs in the region.

At worst his glove should easily translate to 2B, even if he’s not the hitter you expect him to be.

It is definitely a trend for him and something he must improve to stay on playing a key position at LSU. I have seen improvement in field and at the plate and so have great hope.

You're a fricking dumbass who seemingly can't remember how a player, who will be selected in the first round this year, struggled in his own ways as a freshman.

Personally not convinced on him. I'm hoping LSU gets a good one in the portal just in case. Not saying Ruckert won't develop but this wasn't a single thing. It was an all year thing. He collapsed several times in big moments and cost us games. Going into next year in hopes he develops into what we think he will is partly why we experienced our problems this year with guys like Bide behind the plate.

Nah man. Ruckert hits the ball hard when he makes contact. It just lands right in someone’s glove. They will have to start falling at some point. Dude could be an RBI machine if people get on in front of him.

Ruckert suck, he should hit the portal, mess up in key moments like clockwork.

Birth control could have prevented this dumb comment.

Where are you on the field if you are so good? Ruckert is far from this teams current situation. Kick Rocks!

Yamin is a redshirt Junior according to the official roster.

I could also see him leaving to get more playing time elsewhere in what will be his last season.
