Shouldn't we be breaking in our starting QB more than our backup QB?

he's had almost THREE FULL GAMES at QB against our shittiest opponents

when was the last time our starting QB played all 4 quarters against 2 horrible opponents (and 1 likely mediocre-bad opponent)?

Is Shep even our #2 QB? Nope...

he's not a QB
he's not a RB

he's a gimmick player that we need to use in a good role

so far we haven't used him, and his role has sucked

BUT if Shep were to go down to an injury (especially with his scrambling style) I'd be completely miserable right now.

When was the last time we started a 19 year old QB?

2 horrible opponents? I can see that argument.
1 likely mediocre-bad opponent? UW just beat #3 earlier today, but I already know that you feel USC was jobbed by refs, etc. I'll agree to disagree with you on that point.

Technically, you're right that JM started in '04, but Randall was our guy for 2/3 of the year.

And JM was 20 at the beginning of the '04 season.

The point I was trying to make is still the same. JJ is very young and needs as many snaps at QB as possible. I'd rather hold out Shep's gimmick plays until they'd be more useful. None of our games yet this year have really been in doubt.

shep is a gimmick player

but he's going to be an option player. there is nothing shocking about shep running the option

We practice against cadavers in practice.. you didn't hear? I see no reason not to have Shepard in the game with nearly every 4 WR set. He's very explosive as we've seen.. and he can catch.

I hope we'll see him utilized against UGA and UF.

I'm not too worried with the offense. We are definitely still trying to break in JJ. Our playing calling hasn't been too aggressive or day-breaking. We're mainly calling a series of basic plays to try to work everyone out. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new offense next week and an even better one the week of the UGA game.

no we haven't

we've shown likely all that we will show, other than a few trick plays here or there

Naw, we're just establishing a foundation that our offense needs to build on. The screens, draws, etc. I'll put money on it that the play calling will improve next week until LSU pulls away from miss state.

He is an athlete and should be on the field more. I agree with SFP that our coaches are not using him like they should.

What are they holding this kid back?

He is young. Vandy, he lined up at Wideout and preceded to fumble. Coaches are bringing him a long. Is it the right way... who knows.

I made this same thread on the Recruting Board right after Shep committed and I got slammed for it.

All i heard from everybody was how good Crowton was at Oregon

Can't really say much about the game against Vandy last week. Weather conditions affected both teams' performances. We still played well for a rain game. We'll pull ahead of state around the 3rd qtr.

First off UW beat USC which makes our UW win a bit easier to take.

Our OL is very week. DL ok against run, terrible putting press. on QB.

Our play calling needs a boost. What is GC doing? just see Auburn for excitement and why we may lose T Reed & L Seastrunk and after watching 3 games, I would go to Auburn if I am them and want to play in an exciting offense. Shep needs to run/pass option, run a form of fakes to TH or dive to a RB, fake the option & back up and throw it. Something different than up the middle every time. How predictable are we going to be & help our opponents Def????

Nice win though but still

This is true.

As for Shep, he's supposedly our best, most athletic recruit in the past few years. Why not unleash him and give him teh ball more, whether it's running or catching passes???

Maybe we're easing him in and he'll get more touches later in the year. But 8 touches in 3 games, I was hoping for more, especially considering how anemic our offense has been thus far.

He will probably get only 2 touches per game from here on out. And they will all be obvious runs up the gut, where he may or may not bounce it outside solely using his athletic ability.

letting him run up the middle every play

My ONLY rationale for this is to get him acquainted with college football intensity of contact to condition him to not fumble when he gets hit harder than he has ever been hit before.

Let him take the contact now - in games that don't really count - and see how he does.

Other than that,
