Remember when you thought they changed a baseball draft rule because you didn't know that draft eligible sophomores existed?
remember when Iowa led the nation in corn production. You are a great magician, you really are. Don't look over here but bring up a 100% irrelevant topic (early MLB draft rule) and post it is on this thread. Nice attempt to hijack the thread man....it didn't work.

Wrong. You go with arm talent in a situation like that. It's why MLB teams go to their closer in similar situations not who pitched the 8th regardless of how well he pitched the 8th. Now, if you want to complain that we didn't have a true "shut the door" closer like a Mariano Rivera, be my guest. Jump's arm talent was the closest thing we had available to that.

You are a straight up dumbass.

If Ack goes out in the 9th and gives up a couple hits with Jump standing in the bullpen some of you guys would have been on JJ's shite anyway.
JJ is not perfect but the moves he made collectively over the last 3 weeks games have been pretty damn good.

Ackenhausen was mowing them down.
While he did have three k’s, I wouldn’t exactly say he mowed them down. Every pitch he threw was stressful and he got into full counts the last two batters including several pitches bouncing before the plate. He was amped up no doubt, but I’m not going to question putting Jump in. It’s hindsight 20/20 now, but Jay pushed a lot of the right buttons to get this team here.

I hope someone on here is keeping track of all the idiot posters. A lot of idiots are gonna need quick access to therapy when Jay wins another NC in the next few years

Nooooo, you are wrong except I will say some MLB teams do it also. The other day, the Yankees were beating some team and the 8th inning pitcher mows down the other team. And they bring in their closer who had a 0.00 ERA...notice the "had"...he got shelled for 3 runs and they lost. Once again, arm and history is worth squat if the current pitcher is unhittable in THIS particular game.

Hey man, instead of always having an axe to grind, try and enjoy/appreciate the success that we've had.

Starters aren't accustomed to being brought into dirty innings.
I agree with that. Starters also aren't acccustomed to suddenly being relief pitchers....period.

Have you put a binder together of how you would have handled the situation? Maybe you should go on campus and make yourself known and apply to a Vol assistant and maybe become the next great Head Coach of one of the most storied college baseball teams. You must be perfect in your job. GTFO and enjoy the season that we were given, those kids fought their arse of to get where they did and the Coach had them believing in themselves instead of giving up.

I agree with that, and you and I probably have a different opinion about who the moron is.

Some of you people are insufferable. We weren't winning the natty this year. It just wasn't going to happen. We didn't quite have the horses. Hopefully we load up for another run at it next year, but to re-hash this crap, who gives a shite? The team went on a run and almost knocked out the 4th overall seed. Focus on that. Stop being so damned negative.

That's because one of you is too stupid to be self aware.

Nope, not hindsight. I talked to my brother before the 9th inning and he had the same opinion I did. Ackenhausen's game until someone reaches base. Not rocket science for most people
Posted on 6/4/24 at 3:17 pm to NotaStarGazer
I personally thought Ackenhausen should have pitched in the 9th inning, but I completely understand Jay's reasoning for putting his ace in there to finish off the game, and will not hold it against him.
LSU had the top of the lineup batting in the bottom of the last inning with a chance to win the game, and your ace on the mound prior, and nobody stepped up. There are no excuses. North Carolina was the better team.

The Rant is a funny place.
Every year, we have posters clamoring to bring back an Ace to close out a playoff game. It finally happens, and now likely those same posters are crucifying the coach.
