Some of y'all tend to think that an SEC title is not a big deal. You'd be wrong. Why it's a big deal for LSU:

1. It's a chance to win the best conference in the land and a tangible title that these players will claim for the rest of their lives.

2. It is a big deal in the SEC pecking order. Current # of SEC Titles:

School - # of Titles (Last won)
Alabama 27 (2018)
Georgia 13 (2017)
Tennessee 13 (1998 lol)
LSU 11 (2011)
Florida 8 (2008)
Auburn 8 (2013)

I want LSU to overtake UGA/Tenn for 2nd all-time.

3. It has been a sign of long-term success. LSU has won at least one (1) SEC title in 7 of the last 9 decades going back to the 1930s.

4. Oh by the way, this year it is probably required in order to make the CFP. I know some think otherwise, but a 12-1 Utah or OU conference champ has a good chance of bumping 12-1 LSU on a one game losing streak.

You sound old.

I’m not saying the SEC Championship is meaningless, but it pales in comparison to winning the National Title.

I agree with all but #4.

But it is probably the difference between the 1 and 4 seed. Playing Ohio state or someone like Utah or baylor to make it to the championship game.

I want LSU to win whatever game it is playing. So, yeah...it is important because LSU plays in it.

some newbs on here have been saying it for the last couple of months.

And yes, winning a natty is better, but winning the SEC should never be downplayed or disregarded.

Look it’ll be cool but it can’t hold a candle to a natty

The ultimate goal is making the playoffs. In most cases an SEC title has to come with that. It maybe doesn't this year, but I would rather not have to find that out.

Winning a national title is bigger than winning the conference? Really going out on a limb there.

just watch the narratives this week. Or, actually, don't. That's my plan. Ignore the chatter and beat UGA. Hoist SEC trophy. Profit.

It's really crazy how we created these championship games and they actually don't mean anything now that people can go with their hearts over resumes.

Before this weekend, they were hammering the point that "the fourth best team" was Bama, a team once again sitting home during the SEC championship game. They would be home while the loser and possibly the winner could leave a bad impression on the committee after laying they health and optics on the line in an extra game.

Why play conference championships while teams benefit and not risk injuries and losses sitting at home? Bama was given that chance in 2011 and didn't earn it. We lost, but they shouldn't have been there. This will be interesting how it all plays out.

and you sound like a child. It monumental. Does that mean if we lost to UGA that the playoffs are meaningless? Uh, no. It means that if you want to truly proclaim being an undisputed champion, you cannot fall short in the prelude the playoffs. That, along with the OP's reasons, should be enough. Now, get back to your 9th grade civics class son

Every competitive team’s goal is to win their conference championship. Don’t get me wrong. A handful of teams every year know they have the roster to compete for a national championship but that takes a shitload if luck and it’s not a realistic goal. 90% of the teams have ZERO shot of winning the natty by the first week of November but you can still win a conference championship with 3-4 losses.
